Stradbroke Online Newsletter - 14/04/20
Dear <<First Name>>

Not surprisingly this newsletter is all related to the Coronavirus. More specifically what we can do to help each other and how we rely on key facilities within the village to enable us all to live as near normal an existence in this lock-down period.

Stradbroke Community Support Group
It is now 4 weeks since Good Neighbours set up the Covid-19 community support team. Now with over 100 clients on their list and almost as many volunteers it has been a very busy month. The first couple of weeks were a bit hectic as the phone holder had to manage an ever increasing number of clients and volunteers. Also, the new volunteers and clients all needed to understand the new protocols that had been put in place.
Recording who wanted what and from where and then explaining this to a volunteer also had its teething problems. For example prescriptions can only be collected with full details of the client, full name, address and date of birth. Shopping lists can be as simple as half a dozen eggs and a newspaper or a long list of items, some of which may not be available and alternatives need to be found.
By the end of the month all the new volunteers had completed at least one errand and some as many as four, and all clients were happy!  So we think that they all deserve a round of applause for their sterling efforts.

Coronavirus  Locally
As far as we know there are no confirmed cases of the virus within the parish. However, we must be diligent since there are cases not far from us. We must stick to the regime of social distancing and minimizing interactions outside of family units. If you don’t need to go out, then don’t. If you are a vulnerable person and need shopping, medicines or prescriptions then use the Good Neighbours service. If you know of a vulnerable person and you think they need support then contact Good Neighbours, they have volunteers who will make contact with them and provide telephone support. Finally, the Good Neighbours team has a list of contacts in surrounding villages so anyone in these villages can now be referred to their local support group. The complete list of villages which are serviced by our Doctors Surgery and which now have some sort of scheme are Fressingfield, Hoxne, Horham, Laxfield and Weybread.

Local Shops and Services
We would also like to say a very big thank-you to everyone in our shops, the surgery, care workers, delivery and postal staff for all their continued hard work and dedication. They provide us with essential provisions and services and help to make all our lives much better and safer.

Urgent! - Supplies for Food Bank Needed
Lastly, but by no means least, there are an increasing number of households in the village relying on a regular donation from the Eye Food Bank. Because there are fewer people shopping in supermarkets, and there is a limit on the number of each item that one is allowed to purchase, supplies at the Food Bank are running very low.
Rev Canon Susan Loxton (tel.
388493) arranges for the distribution of boxes within the village and surrounding area. If anyone can spare tins or packets of food within shelf life, they can be left behind the green gate at The Rectory in Doctors Lane. Susan will then arrange for them to be sent to the Food Bank for packing and distribution within the Community.

Message from Dan Poulter
As you may be aware, during this important national fight against COVID-19, I have been given leave by our Government to return to the frontline of the NHS, working as a doctor, but I want you to know that I am still here to help you as your local MP. On a regular basis, I am in touch with my office where I am briefed fully and give regular instructions on constituency matters and how to help people who may be in need.
