Dear <<First Name>>
I want to share the wonderful news that the Government has backed down on its proposal to scrap the International Development Committee (IDC), which helps ensure that UK aid money is spent effectively on ending global poverty.
A massive thank you to all of you who took action on this at short notice! IDC Chair Sarah Champion MP has thanked MPs and campaigners who have supported her Committee’s work, and will be personally thanking campaigners at an online event on Thursday 17 December at 6.30 pm. You can register for the event here.
You can read more about the decision in this press article. It is very clear that correspondence from constituents was a big part of achieving strong cross-party support for the Committee.
There is more campaigning to do however. As you will have seen, the Government plans to scrap its commitment to spending 0.7% of our national income on aid, and RESULTS is opposing this. We’ll keep you informed of developments in the New Year.
But for now, let’s celebrate a big success! Thank you again for standing up for the Committee’s work and helping make sure that UK aid makes the greatest possible difference to people living in poverty.
