Very Important Meeting in Murphy Creek

This is a meeting you should not miss!  On Monday, September 28, at 7PM, the Aurora Ward II Town Hall / Candidate Forum will be held here in Murphy Creek.  Your attendance and participation in this meeting is so important for promoting Murphy Creek and the communities along the eastern corridor as having a strong voice in the decisions made by our Aurora City Council.  Murphy Creek and our Ward II neighbors along the E-470 corridor need to have a good showing of residents at this meeting!!

This is the first time Renie Peterson, our Ward II City Council member (at the request of MCGC Neighbors) is holding her Town Hall at Murphy Creek.  The program will give you an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates running for election in November.  The candidates and positions are:

  • Mayor - Stephen Hogan (currently our Mayor and is unopposed);
  • 2  City Council At-Large seats:  Debi Hunter Holen, Angela Lawson, Bob LeGare and Maya Wheeler;
  • Ballot Question 2J - Repeal of Aurora City Charter Section 11-18.5.

We expect all the candidates to be at the Town Hall and to provide brief information about their candidacy.  And, we will have an opportunity to ask questions about their qualifications, their understanding of Aurora government, their vision for Aurora, their stance on issues, etc.

Murphy Creek may be on the edge of Ward II out here in the prairie, and you may feel that City Council’s actions don’t impact Murphy Creek and you.  Look again.  We have provided information in a number of News Blasts about issues that involve the City Council and have an impact on Murphy Creek - oil and gas permits and drilling with the many pros and cons, an expensive annexation study to add large areas of land to the city which will require more from already stressed city services and potentially result in more half-finished communities without nearby shopping or other services, building of the storage and RV development (strongly opposed by residents), zoning code rewrites which may make it possible to eliminate Planning Commission/Public Hearings for future developments, etc.

The Town Hall / Candidate Forum will be held at the Murphy Creek Community Center from 7PM – 9PM.  (Please RSVP so enough food can be provided, however, an RSVP is not required to attend.)  Again, the date is Monday, September 28, and this is a meeting you should not miss!
