Town Hall/Candidate Forum
Do you sometimes feel a little disconnected from the rest of Aurora?  Do you think about going to some of the Town Hall meetings, but you don't, because you don't want to drive down to the Municipal building?  Well, MCGC Neighbors understands that and took some steps to remedy the situation.

We contacted our Ward II Council Member, Renie Peterson, and asked her to hold her next Town Hall meeting, with a Candidate Forum, here in Murphy Creek.  Council Member Peterson was kind enough to honor our request, and her next Town Hall will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015, at 7PM, in the Murphy Creek Community Center, 23801 East Florida Avenue.

Mayoral candidates and the candidates running for the 2 At-Large Council Member positions will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about current issues, past issues, and their visions for the future of Aurora.

Council Member Peterson will be providing food and drinks.  Come on out and get your questions answered!

Annexation Study
Why are we calling this to your attention - again?  This annexation would bring more undeveloped land into the city, thereby creating more sprawl.  The city is not planning to augment any of its staff to accommodate the additional land and people, so providing basic services to all of our communities out here on the eastern plains is going to become more difficult.

If you attend any of the Murphy Creek HOA or Metro District meetings, you already know that we had to hire our own security company, because the police don't come out this way very often.  We are fortunate to have our own fire station, but other communities out here aren't so fortunate, and if we expand the sprawl, safety could become a bigger issue.

Currently, we don't have libraries, shopping, sidewalks, buses, snow plowing of any streets other than the main ones, trails, community centers, etc. etc.  Since there aren't enough services to accommodate the people we already have, how much more difficult will it be to accommodate an annexed area?  And how will roads, sewers, and water get out to the annexed area?

We encourage you to read our August 12, 2015 News Blast article and to review the Annexation Study page of the city's website to know when public meetings will be held.

Currently, there is an Open House scheduled for September 29, 2015, out here in Murphy Creek to discuss this issue.  We know from your past comments that most of you would prefer a presentation with a question and answer period, instead of an Open House, so that everyone can hear the same information at the same time, which reduces confusion.  So, MCGC Neighbors has made that request to the city.  We will keep you updated.

Community Rights Summit

If you missed the Summit, you missed a great opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of how government puts the rights of corporations over the rights of people and the environment - every time.  We see this repeatedly in our own communities, and it is happening nationwide.

Please check the Coloradans for Community Rights (CCR) website to watch some videos and read some of the comments from our neighboring communities.

The Country Music Project

The Country Music Project

The Social Committee's last band concert of the season will be held on Sunday, August 30, from 5-7PM at the Tavern's Pavilion.

Join your friends and neighbors to hear the great sounds of The Country Music Project.  Maybe you've seen them at the Grizzly Rose, The Stampede, Highlands Ranch, or any number of other places.  Now is your chance to see them right in your own back yard.  Come on out - you won't want to miss them!

Bring lawn chairs or come out a little early to get a table.  The Tavern will have food and drinks for sale.  No outside food or beverages, please!
