Burnaby Neighbourhood House

These past few weeks BNH staff and volunteers saw hundreds of community members come out to join in on the fun at our community BBQs and our BNH Street Party! It was so nice to see so many families and individuals participate in these community events, connecting and engaging with one another and learning more about the Burnaby Neighbourhood House.

Community Events & News

North Community BBQ

Tuesday, August 23rd, 5 PM to 7 PM
at North House parking lot

There is one more Community BBQ before summer ends! The North House Community BBQ will feature BBQ, activities and entertainment! Admission is by donation (minimum $2) and will include hot dog, chips & drink. Reserve your ticket at North House or by calling 604-294-5444. See poster for details.

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM

All families with children aged 0-5 years are welcome to join our In-person and virtual family place for circle time, books, and a wide variety of children activities that support your child’s development.

Cooking Basics on a Budget

Thursdays, Sept 22, Oct 27, Nov 24
from 11 AM to 1 PM
at Brentwood (2055 Rosser Ave)
This is a wonderful and fun opportunity where you get to learn, meet new people and share food! Each class, you’ll learn how to make budget-friendly food  and then connect with your classmates as you sample the food you’ve created together. See poster for more details.

Slow Deep Breathing with the Essence of Pranayama

Mondays & Thursdays, from 7 AM to 8 AM
via Zoom

 Pranayama is an ancient practice of controlling your breath. The practice involves breathing exercises and patterns which strengthen the connection between your body and mind. A regular practice of controlled breathing brings us numerous benefits to all of our existence: body, mind, spirit! For more info see poster. Qi Gong

Mondays, 2 PM to 3 PM via Zoom

Thursdays, 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Willingdon Heights Park (June - Aug 2022), weather permitting

Discover the basic concepts of Qi (vital life force energy). Qi Gong focuses on slow-flowing movement and rhythmic breathing to promote relaxation and health. This gentle practice can add to anyone’s repertoire for health, stress management, and fitness. Join us in enhancing your own awareness of your energy. See poster for more details.

EAL Classes

Digital Literacy Program

Do you need tech help? Some people may not feel confident when navigating today's online world. But we can help! If you or your family needs help with online technical support. BNH is here for you! We can support you in Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin, Korean, and Punjabi.

Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors

Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM
at BNH Community Hall

Burnaby Neighbourhood House is launching a new, low-cost, social activity day program for Burnaby seniors, called TAPS. The program is funded by the Government of BC and managed by the United Way of the Lower Mainland. See poster for details and eligibility to join.

Caregiver Support Groups

2nd and 4th Monday of every month, from 6 PM to 8 PM

Are you a friend or family member who provides unpaid care for an adult or senior?
Are you looking for a safe and confidential group to share your experiences and challenges with other unpaid caregivers?
Are you looking for other resources or workshops to help and support you with this important role?

BNH Food Hubs

at both Houses

With funding from the United Way Local Love campaign we are now the South and North Food Hubs for Burnaby. This includes coordination for food security issues for Burnaby residents who are experiencing food insecurity. Burnaby residents and service providers can contact us for more information on available food resources.

Family Outreach Support

at both Houses

Our Family Outreach Workers are always here for Burnaby families with children 0-12 years old.  Our services phone check-ins, connections to local community resources and programs, grocery/food security for low-income families.
