On September 29th, Burnaby Neighbourhood House program participants and staff were encouraged to wear an orange shirt to help raise awareness of the impacts of residential schools and in remembrance - every child matters. Some of our programs also were engaged in special activities to recognize and to learn about Truth and Reconciliation.

BNH Membership Month

Sharing Cultures Dinner
Tuesday, October 25th, 6 PM to 8 PM

This month we are celebrating Thailand with our neighbours! Tickets must be purchased in advance at the South House office reception.

STRIDE: Call for Artists!
Deadline: October 31st
Do you share our goal of connecting people with art and with each other? Can the arts strengthen a community? Apply now to be part of the 2023 STRIDE Burnaby Arts Festival team.
Accepted artist/presenter will present one or more Stride Festival elements during our February 3-12 event. This year's theme is CONNECTIONS and will performances, community art displays, outdoor installations, artist talks, discussion panels, workshops, demos and more! We anticipate most programming will be offered IN-PERSON in accordance with BC Ministry of Health guidelines. To apply, go here.

Mentoring with Math
Wednesday or Thursdays, from 4 PM to 5 PM
via Zoom
This is an after-school free program for boys and girls in grade 3-7 who struggle with math. Children are matched virtually with mentors who help make math fun and achievable . Each session is 1 hour: the first hour is focused on math, while the last portion is spent building a friendship between the child and mentor through play.

Slow Deep Breathing with the Essence of Pranayama

Pranayama is an ancient practice of controlling your breath. The practice involves breathing exercises and patterns which strengthen the connection between your body and mind. My Small Business
Registration Deadline: October 23, 2022
This is a pilot project for newcomer women with business ideas. If you are an immigrant or refugee woman with artisan skills you want to advance and begin your own business this program will help you develop the needed tools to do just that. Over the course of the three phases of the program you will receive appropriate support to help you every step of the way. Interpretation and child-minding will be provided. See poster for details.

We now have Food Hubs in South and North Burnaby. This includes coordination for food security issues for Burnaby residents who are experiencing food insecurity. Burnaby residents and service providers can contact us for more information on available food resources.

Our Family Outreach Workers are always here for Burnaby families with children 0-12 years old. Our services phone check-ins, connections to local community resources and programs, grocery/food security for low-income families.
