The Monthly - August 2020

The new Monthly looks at Community Arts under Lockdown. Community Arts Partnership’s Chief Executive, Conor Shields is interviewed by NVTV regarding his thoughts on the Community Arts response to working through the pandemic.

We interview representatives from three organisations, Anne Delaney from New Lodge Arts, Patricia Downey from Spanner in the Works Theatre Company and Eileen Branagh from Open Arts about their experiences reshaping their work and maintaining creative activities for their participants in this extraordinary situation. From Art Packs to Bake-Offs, socially distanced theatre to Zoom choir practice, they have all found new ways or working throughout the new situation.

Dave Randall from intercultural band “Slovo” talks about the process of bringing together a band of musicians from different cultural backgrounds and how they worked together to create the new album, “Bread and Butterflies”.

There is more Lockdown Listening from Maria Doyle and Paul Kane from OTH (Formerly the Over the Hill Music Collective discusses working with older musicians, the new album and the difficulties faced trying to work in Care Home settings during the crisis.

And finally we have a short piece about creating opera through Community Arts practice and the experiences of composer Jonathon Dove.
