HOLIDAY RECYCLED GIFT SHOPPE

To Benefit Our Friends at the Consolation Center - Haiti

Sunday December 11th from 11:00am - 6:00pm
Have a toaster oven still in the box that has been taking up space in the back of your kitchen cabinet since your wedding (in 1995?) Did that exercise bike you NEVER used become your clothing “caddy” of choice for the last 4 years? Why not give this gently-used and like-new gear up to STH and help raise money for the children at the CONSOLATION CENTER in HAITI (CCH) hardest hit by the most recent Hurricane Matthew?

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, STH partnered with the CCH and made several work trips down to CCH in Les Cayes, Haiti, to deliver supplies, teach at the girls’ orphanage and school, and help design and expand the center. The most recent hurricane did major damage in Les Cayes and demolished much of the center, school, crops and livestock. Your material and financial donations will help CCH rebuild again and bring much needed aid to the children and staff we have worked so closely with in the past.

Donated Items Can Be Dropped Off:
Friday December 9th 9:00am - 6:00pm
Saturday December 10th 2:00pm - 6:00pm
Sunday December 11th 9:00am-11:00am

Items Too Big To Be Dropped Off: Please send photos, dimensions and descriptions of any furniture or items shoppers could pick up directly from donor. Deadline for submission of photos and info for oversized items: November 30th.

To make direct financial contributions toward Haitian relief efforts and the rebuilding of the Consolation Center, please donate through: http://goservglobal.org/give/

ELVES' HOLIDAY WORKSHOP

Sunday December 11th from 11:00 am -5:00 pm
Shop upstairs for recycled “treasures” one of your friends or family members can’t live without, then come downstairs and make your own unique holiday cards, wrapping paper and ornaments. Help STH raise money for our friends at the Consolation Center - Haiti and help rebuild the school, community health clinic and children’s dormitories. (Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.) STH Re:Creation Center, 748 Union Street, Park Slope.

GOWANUS ARTS
GOWANUS SHOUT-OUTS:

WANTED: HEAD FARMER / URBAN GARDENING EDUCATOR

For New ‘GOWANUS SKY FARM”

While STH waits for the completion of the steel work needed to re-inforce our roof in preparation for the spring installation of the new “Gowanus Sky Farm” (designed by Gwen Schantz of Brooklyn Grange and funded by the Department of Environmental Protection), we are seeking a head farmer to create and administrate the new urban gardening programs we envision for the roof next season, as well as to supervise and oversee the planting, growing, harvesting and upkeep of the farm itself. Please send letter of interest and experience to spoke@spokethehub.org then let’s talk.

Also, anyone interested in being involved in any part of the new farm project should also get in touch now. STH hopes to schedule a first group planning meeting soon: spoke@spokethehub.org.

WANTED: METAL WORKERS, CARPENTERS, SCULPTORS, FURNITURE MAKERS, GLASS ARTISTS
USE OUR ARTS CENTER AS YOUR SHOWROOM!

The “new” Gowanus Arts will be needing help to create various furnishings -- such as benches, tables, chandeliers, bike racks, counters, planters, fountains, rain barrels, bannisters, seat covers, curtains, table-cloths, murals, marquis and other signage -- and we would like these furnishings to reflect the hand-made originality, warmth, color and creative energy that animates our building. We are seeking local artists and craftspeople who might want to create some of these furnishings for our center in exchange for classes as well as utilizing our building as an ongoing “showroom” for your own work. Please contact Elise to discuss your ideas and what you might offer: spoke@spokethehub.org.
