DANCE EVERY MORNING THIS AUGUST:
MODERN, BALLET & IMPROV CLASSES
AUGUST DANCE CARDS
(Aug. 8-26 only)
15-Class Card: $270
Single Drop-in Class: $20
STH invites dancers of all ages to take daily dance technique classes with us every morning for three weeks August 8-26 at Gowanus Arts.
Although these Beginner/Intermediate level technique classes will be open to all, they will be specifically geared toward improving the technical skills of the young choreographers taking Elise Long’s three week DIY Dance Intensive. Dancers with some previous dance training are also welcome to join the classes -- take class every day for the exercise, because you love to dance, or just as a dancer’s "maintenance" class close to home!
In addition to our returning favorite instructors and courses,
STH has a few new course offerings we think you might enjoy!
BANDWAGON PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS (ALL AGES)
with Elise Long
Elise Long offers a new inter-generational improvisation/performance workshop for all uninhibited movers, 8 to 108 years old. Participants will collaborate on and perform large community dance works directed by Ms. Long to be performed at various community functions throughout the year. Additionally, participants can also create their own original works to be performed in their own concerts twice each year. Professional performers are also very welcome to join, so jump on the bandwagon and be part of STH’s new gypsy band of movers and shakers!
w/ Doreen Miranda
This upbeat class teaches Broadway-style jazz choreography and show-stopping stage presence with a focus on learning song-and-dance numbers from a variety of musical productions, past and present.
INTRO TO TAP
w/ Christy Yin
An introductory tap course designed for the student with no previous tap experience. Students will learn the vocabulary and rhythms of basic tap steps and develop choreography to diverse types of music. Body percussion will also be explored.
Serious young thespians are invited to join this actors’ ensemble which will mount and present scenes, one act plays and other classical/ contemporary plays throughout the year.
Where Digital-Natives Write
w/ Deepali Srivastava
A multimedia journalism workshop for kids! Children will interview and investigate, use digital cameras, and publish stories. The unfiltered, unbiased, and well written copy will be presented in an online blog.
KUNDALINI YOGA & MEDITATION
with Donnaldson Brown
An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices that incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. The goal is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.
MODERN DANCE & IMPROV (Adults/Teens)
This open level class taught by veteran dance pros in a relaxed atmosphere is for people with some previous dance training who want to maintain or expand their own technical range as well as to stay in shape and just have good clean fun dancing in a wide open space to great music with other like-minded dance enthusiasts.
