THE WITCHES RECAP

Alexander Borinsky and his ensemble of five actors presented The Witches, an original play written, directed and designed by Borinsky, at STH, April 15-17. The three performances were sold out to an enthusiastic audience.

Borinsky won STH's People's Choice award of a fully produced weekend of performances. His 5-minute monologue presented at STH's 2015 Winter Follies received the highest popular vote by audiences of the two performance weekend.

Borinsky was joined by musician/composer Alaina Ferris and assistant director Jordan Baum. The excellent cast who brought Borinsky's words to life included Borinsky, Theresa Columbus, Mikeah Earnest Jennings, Mary Neufeld and Stephen Winter. Technical direction was by Jim Kent.

According to Borinsky, the play is a project born of the STH People's Choice program, Rustchuk Farm and Big Data (or Dolores). Rustchuk Farm is a made-up farm that is a home for Borinsky and anyone who wants to come by: rustchukfarm.org. Big Data (or Dolores) is a group of writers of plays who are also friends. bigdataordolores.com

African Dance Teacher Wanted

STH is seeking an African - or Afro-based - teaching artist for one of their youth summer programs the last week of July (July 25-29). Must be available to teach every morning that week from 9:15-10:45am.

Teaching artist must have experience working with young people, particularly ages 8-12, and (ideally) would have a college degree and broad experience in many other forms of dance and theater as well. A knowledge of dance history and particularly, African dance history, is important. Mature adult master teaching artists are also welcome to apply. Local Brooklyn residents preferred.

STH is also interested in seeking out contemporary "African Diaspora" teaching artists who teach both kids and adults, are also creating and presenting their own new, original dance/theater work, and are interested in a being a more integrated and collaborative "team player" in STH's expanding community-based, multi-cultural, multi-arts programs in the future.

Please send or drop off a letter of interest, resume, video link of teaching and performance, and summer teaching availability to:
