SHAREBE WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH
I was born and raised in Antwerp, and left Belgium a couple of years ago. I’ve travelled around, observing how people organize in other societies such as Spain, India, the USA, Tanzania. And I have been totally immersed in the Amsterdam sharing economy ecosystem at shareNL, learning a lot about the Dutch entrepreneurial spirit and innovation approach. Belgium was once a frontrunner when it came to innovation in transitional times, being the first country after the UK where the Industrial Revolution took off. This time, we are a bit late to the game, but there is momentum now and we should build on that to create an open space for constructive debate, reflection and experimentation for innovation to take place; including challenging our current complex regulatory framework. With shareBE we’re modest, and we’d like to contribute our share in shaping this new Belgian society together with you, and all different partners and stakeholders we have been working with up to the present moment, and will do so in the future. SHARING ECONOMY AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Sustainability is often a reason for cities to consider becoming a sharing city, but what about sharing regions? Pieter van de Glind, co-founder of shareNL, engaged with Trentino's tourism industry to explore the opportunities of the collaborative (& sharing) economy for sustainable tourism in the region. Check out all the take-aways here.

STUDY: WHY PEOPLE ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE IN THE COLLABORATIVE ECONOMY
Although the assumption that people participate in the collaborative economy for the greater good is prevalent, this study reveals that individual economic benefits seem to play much more of a role in collaborative economy participation. With the world's only sharing economy panel, shareNL will be releasing the monitor; going deeper into mapping the gap between the willingness of using a platform and the actual behaviour. The shareNL monitor will be out this spring!
ADVANCING RESEARCH INTO THE SHARING ECONOMY - CROWD EXPEDITION
On March 15 Utrecht University organized the multidisciplinary mini-symposium: Advancing Research into the Sharing Economy. During the symposium a range of scientists shed light on the latest developments in this evolving field. A keynote was given by Paolo Parigi, who pioneered sociological research on the sharing economy. He currently combines his affiliation at Stanford University with a job as the Lead Trust Scientist at Uber. If you are interested in their insights you can take a look at the video.
ALL ABOUT THAT FACE
Do we trust someone online more when we can see a picture of their face? In this paper, participants were tested on their level of trust for different humanized pictures. The researchers hoped to understand how avatars impact the trust and reciprocity of fellow users. Check out the full article here!

THE SKY (LINE) IS THE LIMIT
42 organisation share the ambition to grow to 100.000 shared cars in 2018. We met recently in Rotterdam, sharing our awes for the views form the 40th floor, but certainly also our updates around car sharing. Together we looked into research about the gap between willingness to share and real activation. We admired a visualization of a street with less cars and spoke to the local public transport operator about their views on car sharing. After an inspiring morning, we were even more ready to reach that sky high goal.
REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR THE SHARING ECONOMY ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
Recently Harmen did an opening keynote at the ISO International Workshop Agreement on the Sharing Economy in Toronto. He also actively participated in this three-day event to come to a draft of guiding principles and regulatory framework for the sharing economy. Harmen will continue contributing to these high-level principles that provide guidance for both sharing economy platforms as well as the providers acting on these platforms. During his time in the lovely country of Canada, Harmen also participated as a speaker at the Arts in a Digital Wolrd Summit in Montréal.
AMSTERDAM SHARING CITY INTERNATIONAL PRESS TRIP
Last week, we hosted a group of amazing people from, for example, Forbes, BBC, Apolitical, Nesta, Huffington Post and The Guardian as part of a press trip co-organized with Amsterdam Marketing. The day started out at the shareNL office with an introduction to the collaborative economy, followed by looking ahead into the future. During the day, the group heard stories and tried out some of the initiatives, including; Abel, Barqo, AirDnD, Peerby, LENA the fashion library and the city of Amsterdam. We wrapped up the day at the inspiring GEEF café Amsterdam.

I believe we're actually in a period where we're waking up from this humongous hangover of emptiness and waste, and we're taking a leap to create a more sustainable system built to serve our innate needs for community and individual identity.
