Ownership of The BOOK!
The Book signifies Education Reform - Viable schools produce students prepared for the workforce and/or college.
Who Owns Our Public Schools?
Throughout the country this topic sparks a lot of debate. It is even more prevalent when decisions are made with little or no input from the citizens. The school system is a public entity financed by our tax dollars distributed by county, state and federal governments. It doesn't matter if you own property or rent property. As a property owner you pay taxes, and as a renter you pay a monthly rent to a property owner who pays taxes. The Stakeholders own the school system, not the Board of Education, Superintendent, Principal, nor Teacher. So when are the real OWNERS going to take ownership and demand the best education for our children?
How much of our tax dollars collected by the County government goes to the Public Schools? A visit to the tax office will reveal about 60% is paid to our school systems. More of our tax dollars is spent on education than regular services like Fire, Police, 911, Sanitation, Street and Highway construction, etc. This is enough for the Stakholders to be outraged especially since the recent statistics on the reduced graduation rates for metro school systems! Is it me or have we become to complacent with our children's lack of readiness? The failure of our students has a domino effect. It is imperative that we continue to build partnerships because not one entity has all the answers.
The key ingredients are RESOURCES that are available, equal, and efficient in our neighborhoods.
