E.W. Oliver Elementary Stock Market Game Champs
Third grade students Kaimen Jones and Caleb Niles were able to turn its initial $100,000.00 investment into $281,690.00 during the ten-week competition inspired by their teacher, Mr. Michael Harrell and their principal, Mr. Marcus Fuller. Since the biannual Georgia Stock Market Game began in 1980, an elementary school has won the state title only five times, with four of those state titles belonging to a
team from E.W. Oliver Elementary School.The entire House of Representatives recognized their accomplishments by a Special Invite Resolution.

1st Annual Senior Gala was a fun-filled evening!
The elegant ladies and exquisite gentlemen of District 74 graced the Lake City Community Center during an evening designed for Senior Adults. It was an intimate evening shared with Representative Stovall complete with entertainment, dining, and dancing. The Forest Park Teen Council served as hosts and hostesses. |
Legislation Highlights
"Crossover Day" was March 3rd and the 30th legislative day of the 2014 session. This is the last chance for bills to pass the legislative chamber from which they originated and is a critical point in the session. .
-HB 885 Passed House- This would increase treatment options for children suffering from seizure disorders by tightly restricting and regulating the distribution of cannabidiol, an oil-based derivative of the cannabis plant. The derivative would only be available through medical trial at one of five Georgia academic research centers and prescribed by medical doctors.
-HB 958 Passed House- It makes August 1-2, 2014 a tax holiday for back-to-school shoppers. It is great for parents and encourages shoppers to do business in Georgia. Other measures in the bill give job-creating tax incentives to video game developers and developers of big, regionally important projects.
-HB 1080 Passed House- It would place a monument of Martin Luther King Jr. at the State Capitol in honor of his significant role in the history of Georgia and America.
-HB 826 Passed House- It allows local school systems more flexibility in handling violations of school safety zones. Now, schools would no longer be forced to expel students who are caught with items like a fishing knife or a baseball bat in their cars on school campuses.
-HB 914 Passed House- Within 24 hours of a school employee making a report of suspected child abuse
the department or governmental child protective agency that received such report shall acknowledge, in writing, the receipt of such report to the reporting individual.

Women's Servant Leadership Award
It is not often that women are recognized for their great work in the community. The Women's Caucus acknowledged women leaders across the State of Georgia during the month of March. One such woman is Dr. Rev. Evangelist Lawanda Folami of Clayton County. Her outstanding commitment to the seniors, youth and overall community is to be commended. Congrats also to Honorable Sparkle Adams and Marie Barber.
