Budget
The Governor presented his FY 2015 Budget Recommendations the first week of session. Since then, the House Appropriations Committee has gone through the recommendations and made changes which were voted on last Thursday. You can view the House version here. The Amended Budget has transferred to the Senate where additional changes could be made. If the House & Senate does not agree on changes, a conference committee will be appointed by the Speaker and the Lt. Governor to iron out differences and will go to each chamber for a final vote.
Education
House Bill 91 would retroactively allow past students who failed the Georgia High School Graduation Test but fulfilled all of the other requirements for graduation, to petition their local school board in order to obtain a degree from their high school.
House Bill 65 requires local school boards and charter schools to hold at least two public meetings prior to adopting any budget, so that the public can provide input on the proposed annual budget.
