My thoughts on the Opportunity School District -Amendment 1 not becoming law on Nov. 8th: I respect the democratic process by voters of approving or disapproving bills and candidates. I still believe just as many others that Amendment 1 is very much needed to apply pressure to local school districts. Many of these school districts are yet to develop and enact plans to address the situation of an estimated 68,000 children are stuck in schools who have received an F grade for 3 years or more. The students remain in these low performing schools even today a month after the bill didn't pass. What now?? It's time for the parents and community to force the local school districts to form the necessary partnerships needed to benefit the students. I encourage the same level of energy from those organizations opposing the OSD to now transfer their efforts to ask questions on the plans created, how will they be enacted, and how long will it take? As I have stated before, every year a child turns 18 yrs old and transitions into society whether prepared or not.
