Speak Your Mind postponed tonight June 30th
Education & Transportation
from Representative Valencia Stovall,
EDUCATION:
In the wake of the recent decision by the majority of the Clayton County School Board to appoint the Superintendent as permanent after the outcry of disagreements by the citizens, my office has decided to host an Educational Symposium in Clayton County. Many of our citizens haven't become engaged in the educational system since the loss of accreditation in 2008. It is imperative that our community understand their responsibilities to the youth, along with the structure of the school system, and the important role education plays in economic development.
This Symposium is not a result of a personal attack on the majority of the school board members nor the superintendent. It is a result of "It takes a County to Raise Our Children", but the County has to be embraced and empowered.
Contact my office by email contact@gostovall.com or 404-656-0314, if you are interested in assisting with this impactful event.
My dad often quotes, "Everything rises and falls on leadership". As a Clayton County resident you are a stakeholder and it is imperative that you VOICE your opinion to our county and school board leaders.
TRANSPORTATION:
HB 1009 passed in the General Assembly and signed into law. This important legislation that I co-sponsored authorizes the Clayton County Commissioners to place a referendum on the November ballot to allow 1% sales tax for joining MARTA for transportation options in our county. This 2nd opportunity could be the last chance for Clayton. If you are a resident of Clayton and are directly affected or know of individuals who are affected, RAISE UP YOUR VOICE by:
1. Attend the Commissioners' Meeting on tomorrow July 1 at 6:30pm 112 Smith St. Jonesboro
2. Contact all the Commissioners by email or phone call, visit http://myclaytoncommissioner.com/ to find out who is your commissioner.
It breaks my heart to see so many people walking to the stores, doctor's office, bus stops (in Fulton County). There is a chance for the suffering of the people to stop when it comes to reliable transportation. I am also concerned about the economic impact that will be felt if this referendum is not passed and acted upon. Please know that the legislators have done our part and even gained support from our colleagues in all political parties. Transportation is not a party issue, it is a people and survival issue.
