Rep. Stovall will present her first general bill HB 614 on House Floor on tomorrow Feb. 24th
(10am session starts)
Join Rep. Stovall at the Georgia State Capitol for the presentation of her first general bill since being elected in 2012. The Landon Dunson Act will authorize the Georgia Dept. of Education to approve school systems to place video cameras in the classrooms of self-contained special needs students. This bill was named after a young man who has unique challenges of autism and cerebral palsy who experienced alleged abuse but it couldn't be proven if it happened at school. There are many of our fragile students and I have heard from their families across this state. They deserve the best in education whether they can express themselves verbally or not. Our teachers many times do not have the adequate resources needed. These cameras will address safety concerns as well as instructional support. This is not a mandate, but is voluntary for the school systems. We have wonderful teachers who are professional and care. This bill will allow them to share their methods across the state.
Georgia will be the 2nd state to authorize video cameras in the classrooms of self-contained special needs classrooms. Presently there is not a law on the books which allows or disallows. If you can't be there with us in person, then view online www.house.ga.gov

"I have introduced local legislation bills which are voted on by all members, but I have not had the opportunity to present a bill before my colleagues (180 members). It is an honor to be the only Democrat on the calendar for tomorrow. All praises to God for His highly accelerated favor." Rep. Stovall

This bill is still in House Rules committee:
HB 497 "Nonprofits Surplus Property" was introduced during 2015 session. This bill would allow Georgia 501 (c) (3) nonprofits w/ less than 15 employees to receive surplus property (equipment, furniture, etc.) at no cost for items w/ fair market value of $2,000 or less. This will allow these great organizations to better serve our communities with items Georgians have already paid for once but are no longer in need by local and state government entities.
