Shibori with Indigo Dyeing
August 21, 10am-4pm
Although Indigo dyeing has been applied to clothes and interior decorations for over 700 years in Japan, indigo blues appear contemporary in our modern lifestyle.  In this unique workshop, students will explore various Shibori resist and indigo dyeing techniques.


Beyond the Kimono : Katazome
August 22 & 23, 10am-1pm
This workshop will explore the intriguing textile technique of “KATAZOME” (an excellent introduction to the textile resist-dye process).

Innovative Folding Books
August 27, 9:30am-4:30pm
In this workshop, students will be introduced to creative and innovative book structures using only paper and basic tools. Each student will produce a collection of sample books of folded structures.  Suitable for ages 16+.


Tunnel Books
August 28, 9:30am-4:30pm
In this workshop, students will make a tunnel or ‘peepshow’ book. The books will be 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide with up to six panels. All basic materials provided.

Playing with the Press
FALL DATES ANNOUNCED SOON! 9am-4pm
Join local artist, Judy Hayes in her studio to play with and learn about the Griffin Press!  Register for one day (or multiple sessions) to learn about monoprints, calographs and collage with a variety of materials and water-based inks.  This unique workshop is designed for students with art-making experience and are limited to a maximum enrollment of 4 students per session.  

Creating Your World: A Monotype Workshop
with Visiting Artist, Melanie Yazzie


September 3 & 4, 9am-4pm
Come explore the various methods of monotype printing!  Known as the most “painterly method” among the printmaking techniques, monotype creates a unique translucency and quality very different from a painting on paper or a print, and the beauty of this media is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing mediums.

Explore Photography and Pastel Painting

Contemplative Photography
September 15 – October 6 (4 weeks)
Thursdays, 3-5pm

This class is designed for digital photographers at all levels who seek a meditative or contemplative approach to creating images.  A series of exercises will be offered to engage the senses, analyze light and consider the issues of a well-conceived photographic composition. 

Fundamentals of Pastel Painting
September 13 – October 11 (5 weeks)
Tuesdays, 10am-noon

Students will dive into this delightful, colorful, tactile and expressive medium. No prior experience is required to explore the fun and the fundamentals of pastel painting!

Realistic Acrylic Landscape Painting with John Grow

September 22 – October 13 (4 weeks)
Thursdays, 6:30-8pm

The Lacework Method overlaps layers of open brushwork to suggest the complex textures of nature, with inherent control of light and color.  Experienced painters will gain efficient precision.  Patient beginners will learn a reliable method to achieve realism.  This course is for the thinking painter who wants to observe and portray accurately.

Watercolor Basics with Peggy Lynch

September 20 – October 25 (6 weeks)
Tuesdays, 1-3pm

This excellent beginner workshop will explore the fundamentals of materials, techniques and joy of watercolor painting.  Suitable for the beginner or novice painter with some experience with watercolor painting

Putting It All Together: Photography & Collage
with Holly Roberts


October 8 & 9
Saturday and Sunday, 9am-4pm

Students will combine photography and photo-based processes with different materials to build unique mixed media works in this short, weekend workshop. Working with transfers, water-based paints and adhesives, laser and ink jet prints, and any found or made material, students will incorporate a series of materials into their collages.
