This exhibit explores various fine art printmaking methods, from the oldest known technique of relief printing, to intaglio, planographic and contemporary processes.

About the Artist

Laurie Archer earned a BFA in Fine Arts from Colorado College. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship for Dance & Art in Peru, and the John Hay Whitney Fellowship to pursue studies in theater, acting and dance in New York City. Archer was in the original cast of Camelot on Broadway that debut in 1960. As a visual artist, she has shown at the Palace of the Governors (Santa Fe, NM), Stables Art Gallery (Taos, NM), the Gran Palais (Paris, FR), the El Paso Fine Arts Museum (El Paso, TX), and the Taller Boricua Gallery (New York, NY) among other venues.

This work is featured in The Art Library at the Durango Arts Center. The Art Library is curated by a committee of local artists, known as the Friends of the Art Library (F.O.A.L.), and sponsored by New Face Productions.

Durango Autumn Arts Festival & Upcoming Juried Art Exhibits at DAC 
Durango Autumn Arts Festival 
Limited to 100 exhibitors, application deadline is May 20.

Juried Plein Air Exhibit, An Artist's Vision of Reality 
Submissions are due to DAC on June 28.
This competition is open to all plein air painters. Work must have been created within the last two years and not be larger than 3 feet x 3 feet. All pieces submitted must be for sale. For full submission guidelines and calendar visit,durangoarts.org/plein-air.

 
A Celebration for Mary Puller
In honor of her retirement as Exhibits Director
You are invited to write a message or share an image of appreciation to Mary, to be included in a hand-crafted memory book to be gifted to Mary at the gathering. Realistic Acrylic Landscape
with John Grow

Thursdays, May 26 – June 16, 6:30–8pm
$115 DAC Members per day / $130 Non-Members per day
plus $35 materials fee paid to the instructor

The Lacework Method overlaps layers of open brushwork to suggest the complex textures of nature, with inherent control of light and color. Experienced painters will gain efficient precision. Patient beginners will learn a reliable method to achieve realism. A course for the thinking painter who wants to observe and portray accurately.

A story told in equal parts fiction and truth about what it means to be caged and what it takes to be free. Both captivating and revealing, David Holub guides you through the mysteries found in the most common places of our lives. You will laugh; you might cry. Or maybe it's the other way around.

David Holub is editor of DGO, Durango's free weekly arts / entertainment / nightlife / culture magazine. He was previously Design and A&E editor for The Durango Herald. His writing has appeared, in print or online, in The Paris Review, McSweeney's, The Rumpus, Orion, AGNI, the Christian Science Monitor, American Book Review, PANK and Hobart, among others.

David was one of five artists in 2015 to receive a weeklong residency at Willowtail Springs (Mancos, CO). Find out more about the artist residency program here

 

 
Staged Readings
10-Minute Play Finalists
6th Annual 10-Minute Play Staged Readings
Friday, June 3, 7pm

DAC received a total of 117 play submissions from playwrights--emerging and professional--from all across North America, Europe, and New Zealand for the 6th Annual 10-Minute Play Contest. The top five finalist plays will be presented at the Staged Readings on June 3. Judges will select the Grand Prize Winner for a gift of $500 and the audience will vote and choose their favorite, People's Choice Award for gift of $100.

New Rental Opportunity at DAC
Prime Retail / Office Space on 2nd Avenue
The Durango Arts Center is currently accepting proposals and inquiries for a 450 sq ft. retail/office space. This space is located in the southwest corner on the first floor and is accessed through the Arts Center main lobby entrance. The south and west perimeter walls are large windows that look onto 8th Street and 2nd Avenue. The space is located directly across 2nd Avenue from Steamworks Brewing. Tenants would have access to DAC lavatories and mail services. This space receives substantial foot traffic for DAC events. Internet and all utilities are included.

Monthly Rent: $725
