Art Genres: A FREE five-part winter lecture series

Thursday Afternoons, 3pm to 4:30 pm
1. February 11: Still Life Runs Deep
2. February 18 : Landscape as Metaphor
3. February 25 : Portraiture - As We See Ourselves
4. March 3 : The Politics of History Painting
5. March 10 : Idea & Image : The Trouble with Conceptual Art
Beginning each presentation with a provocative contemporary image, Reynolds will provide context by exploring the history of each genre. This series is made possible through generous donations from Bud & Jean Poe and Doug & Teresa Lashley. 



Musical Theatre Dance with Suzy DiSanto
Saturday, February 20, 10am to 1pm

Come on out and move your body! It's time to dance to those famous, old and new, Broadway classics. Students will gain experience in learning short sequences quickly to help in other dance classes, auditions, or just to have fun! Perfect timing for upcoming summer and fall auditions at DAC!

ACTING: Inside Out / Outside In - The Feedback Loop with
Mona Wood-Patterson

You know how your body tenses up when you get angry? The body and the mind are interwoven in more ways than we realize. Tapping into this connection is an exciting way to discover a character. This class allows participants to explore the body / emotion connection with a dynamic approach that will enable you to free up both body and emotion. Expect lots of fun exercises and some new approaches to finding a character.

Watercolor Basics with Peggy Lynch
March 8 – 29, 1 to 3pm
$80 DAC Members / $100 Non-Members
plus a $10 materials fee paid to the instructor

Watercolor basics with teaching artist Peggy Lynch is for the beginner or students with some watercolor painting experience. This class will explore the fundamentals of materials, techniques and joy of watercolor painting. There will be a minimal investment in materials.

Playing with the Press with Judy Hayes
March 19, April 2, April 23 or May 7, 9am to 4pm
$80 DAC Members per day / $100 Non-Members per day
plus a $20 materials fee paid to the instructor

Take an art vacation and play with the unique Griffin Press with artist Judy Hayes. Chose one day (or more) to learn about monoprints, calographs and collage with a variety of materials and water-based inks. These workshops are designed for students with art-making experience and have a maximum of 4 students per workshop. Locations of the workshops are in the Shenandoah subdivision at the artists’ studio. (Directions given after registration.) Bring a bag lunch and your imagination!

Theatre Games : Building an Ensemble with Theresa A. Carson

Beginning Drawing with Ed Bolster
April 5 – May 3, 2pm to 4 pm
$120 DAC Members / $140 Non-Members

Designed for the novice, this course will introduce fundamental techniques in drawing as well as essential elements of design. Students will use graphite pencils, charcoal and brush to learn the art of seeing as well as drawing. All materials are supplied by the Durango Arts Center.

This course is designed for those who have some drawing experience and want to continue developing their skills.

Life Drawing with Ed Bolster
April 7 – May 5, 6:30pm to 8:30pm
$120 DAC Members / $140 Non-Members
plus $30 model fee paid to instructor 

This course is designed for those who have some drawing experience. Working from live models, students will learn advanced drawing techniques and develop thier natural way of drawing. All materials are provided the first class. A materials list will be available the first night of class.

Fundamentals of Pastel Painting with Deborah Sussex
April 5 – 26, 10am to Noon 
$120 DAC Members / $140 Non-Members

We will dive into this delightful, colorful, tactile and expressive medium. No experience is needed and this two hour class which emphasizes exploration, fun and the fundamentals of pastel painting!
