Upstairs in the Art Library at the Durango Arts Center

Local artist, Jane Steele presents mixed media compilations reflecting intuitive landscapes and impressions from nature.  Jane is a founding educator of the Durango Arts Center’s Girls’ Opportunity through Arts and Leadership and Boys Art Camp.  Both programs provide unique visual and performing arts opportunities as a means of self-expression for middle school aged students. Jane has been a curator/member of the Friends of the Art Library (F.O.A.L.) for nearly a decade, and her work has been featured in numerous group shows at DAC and elsewhere, as well as a solo exhibit in the Art Library in 2014.

22nd Annual Durango Autumn Arts Festival
September 17 & 18, 10am-5pm
E 2nd Avenue, Downtown Durango

The Durango Arts Center's most significant annual fund- and "friend-raising" event, the Durango Autumn Arts Festival benefits from the skills, generosity and enthusiasm of over 100 volunteers.  The Festival features 90 incredible artists and craftspeople from our region and across the country, local food vendors and live local music all weekend on the main stage.

Contribute to the artist's welcome dinner, add muscle to the street setup or takedown, support artists during the weekend, go hands-on at the Creation Station or get involved with various other festival activities.  We need you!

The Durango Arts Center's Annual Members’ Exhibit provides its members with an opportunity to create and present artwork inspired by the natural landscapes of the Southwest.  This exhibit is open to all DAC members, is non-juried and there is no charge to enter.  

Cash awards will be given out for Best of Show ($250), 2nd Place ($125) & 3rd Place ($75), as well as the annual "Reflections of Durango" award presented by the Durango Chamber of Commerce.  For questions, contact Peter Hay at peter@durangoarts.org or by calling (970) 259-2606, Ext 12.

Artwork Needed for Annual Conference Brochure & Promotions

The Alliance of Artists Communities announces an open call to artists who reside in Colorado to submit artwork for promoting and representing the Alliance’s Annual Conference, which will be held in Denver in the fall of 2017.  Selected artwork will be featured on the Alliance’s conference brochure and other promotional outlets including the conference website, and the artist will receive a $300 award and free entry to the 2017 conference ($425 value).  

The Alliance of Artist Communities is an international association of artists' residencies — a diverse field of more than 1,500 programs worldwide that support artists of any discipline in the development of new creative work.

The MacDowell Colony facilitates a balance between focused work and interdisciplinary interaction, among composers, writers, architects, film and video artists, playwrights, interdisciplinary artists, and visual artists.  A MacDowell Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for up to eight weeks.
