6th World Hearing Voices Congress, Greece 2014

The 6th World Hearing Voices Congress was held in Thessaloniki, Greece on the 10th - 12th October 2014.  The Congress was a very successful and moving event. It was attended by 300 people including voice hearers, family members, professionals and researchers in the field of mental health, as well as anyone else interested in the experience of hearing voices

The Congress included research presentations, life stories, stories of recovery, talks about local networks and initiatives, experiential workshops and interactive sessions. It was a place of coming together, discussing, exchanging ideas and sharing experience between people from many countries, perspectives and paths of life.

You can see the videos of the presentations here

The next World Hearing Voices Congress will take place in 2015 in Madrid, Spain. For more information check out the INTERVOICE website here

The Thessalonika Hearing Voices Declaration 2014

The Thessalonika Declaration was put together by the delegates atttending the 6th World Hearing Voices Congress on the 12th October 2014.

Here is an extract from the declaration:
We met in Thessaloniki because our lives have value. Our voices have value and acquire meaning when they encounter other voices. We demand and we create safe spaces for our dignity and our quality of life together with others and not against others. We consider ourselves a part of a living movement of solidarity and mutual respect, which comes as a response to the one-sidedness of biological approaches. We are, thus, a political and a multi-cultural movement. The experience of voices is not a personal, but a collective matter: it concerns family, friends, professionals, the whole society.

People  * NEW *

We have put together a list of the many people who make up the hearing voices movement. So far we have listed about 190 people. We have done this in recognition of the significance of their work and lives. It is an acknowledgement of the many individual contributions that have been made since 1987 to improve the the lives of people who hear voices and see visions.
We have provided a photograph and a short biography of each individual listed, unless we have been unable to find one. This is by no means a completed list and you are welcome to nominate yourself or other people you know.
We have dedicated this page to the many people, the voice hearers, experts by profession, friends and family members, known and unknown, who have played and continue to play an important role in the development of the worldwide hearing voices movement.

Open Dialogue Open dialogue is way of working with people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia and other forms of psychosis (and who may hear voices). As a process it offers a different way of understanding the reasons for the experience and an effective and empowering way to find resolution. On this page we describe this approach and provide links to more resources on this important and innovative way of working.

Spiritual Crisis and Breakthrough We understand that our psychological and spiritual wellbeing are intertwined. For this reason we have produced this information about spiritual crisis and breakthrough.

Reincarnation
Reincarnation is the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life’s actions.

We also have new sections on medication and nutrition.

You can leave messages on our website pages - we'd love to hear from you.

Recovery into Practice - One Year One Conference, National Botanic Gardens, Carmarthenshire, October 30th - 31st 2014

Hearing Voices Network Cymru is proud to be a member of the International Mental Health Collaborating Network. We played an important part in the hosting of the Whole Life Recovery Conference held recently in West Wales. More than 180 people were present at a conference where presenters from England, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia Palestine and Wales shared examples of practice that assisted people in their recovery journeys.
The conference was a great success and the feedback form participants has been overwhelmingly positive. We hope that this conference, the second one we have supported will bring about real change in the way services are provided and establish real and lasting partnerships between  communities families, people who use services, practitioners and services.
