The Director's Dissertation

The last few months have been very slow at Yarn Asylum.  I know that many people take this time for vacations and gardening.  I am also very aware - and it has been pointed out to me more times than I can count - that the construction on Madison Street has been an absolute nightmare.  We have weathered almost 3 years of torn up roadway, dirt and dust, traffic cones, and the sights and sounds of heavy duty construction equipment.  I know many customers have been frustrated with attempts to get here to shop.  No one understands that frustration more than I do.  I have continued to remind myself that it is all for the good.  Many times, I have said that someday we will look back on this mess and think - it was worth it.  Although the construction is not yet complete - the summer has brought great progress!  The roadway is freshly paved in front of the shop.  We now have 4 lanes of traffic PLUS a turning lane!  In just the last couple days, the huge mountain of dirt next to us that has been blocking our sign and the entrance to the parking lot has been flattened.  Progress.
We have lots of ideas and plans for activities and fun at Yarn Asylum.
Please support your local small businesses.  Come see us at Yarn Asylum!

Squishy Soft Corsica

Imagine wrapping up a little one in this super soft and sweet blanket.
This Stroller Blankie is an easy knit - using 5 colors of Corsica by Berroco.  The yarn is a blend of cotton and cashmere and is machine washable.  Knit this one for the next baby in your life.  Pattern is printed free with purchase of yarn.

The Best of Knit Purl Hunter

This collection of knitted patterns by Michelle Hunter (aka Knit Purl Hunter) has been one of the best selling books in the shop.  The colorful, glossy pages highlight her popular patterns for a variety of projects - socks, mittens, cowls, shawls, hats & much, much more.  Her instructions are clear and concise.  She even includes links to video tutorials on her website for the stitches, cast ons, and bind offs used in the projects!
We are planning a series of classes and KAL's at Yarn Asylum using this book.  Information on the next one is included in this newsletter.  Pick up your copy soon!

Friday Night Fiber Fun

End your week at Yarn Asylum with an upbeat, positive group of yarn addicts.  We have set aside Friday evenings from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm as a time to gather and work on the same project together.
Some of these events are instructional - with a small fee for the instructor.
Others are purely social - knitting together and enjoying the company of others.
Past projects include: 2 at a time socks, the Joji MKAL - Starting Point & Tin Can Knits Harvest cardigan.
Everyone is invited to join us!
The guidelines are simple:
Materials for the current project must be purchased at Yarn Asylum.
While we do learn new techniques - this is not a learn to knit class.
We work together to chose the projects we want to work on next.
You must have fun and laugh at my corny jokes.
Come join us!
Our next project begins on Friday, August 18th.  Details below!

Upcoming events

Join us for Friday Night Fiber Fun as we work on our latest project - the Corkscrew Hat by Michelle Hunter.
Two color knitting and cables make up this fun and interesting design.  If you are a beginner to cables - this is a great project to learn/practice on.
Stuff you need to know:
The 3 sessions will be Friday, August 18th, August 25th & finishing on September 8th.  The hat is knitted with DK weight yarn in two colors.  The pattern is included in Michelle Hunter's book - The Best of Knit Purl Hunter and also available as an individual pattern on Ravelry.  The pattern includes 3 sizes.  You can purchase it in either format at Yarn Asylum.  The instructional fee for this project is just $10 per session!
