It is mid summer and we are enjoying some beautiful weather here in Clarksville,  It hasn't been unbearably hot for extended periods of time and we have even experienced some cool temperatures.  While we are contemplating Fall/Winter projects, we are still working on lightweight versatile items too.  Check out the August KAL.  I can see this top worn as a warm weather tee or layered for fall.

While we are on the subject of Fall knitting - the yarn companies have not disappointed us for this season!  New yarns are being introduced and many are arriving weekly at Yarn Asylum.  Drop by and check out the new fibers stocking the shelves and pegs!

At Yarn Asylum, we try to arrange our classes to accommodate as many people with various schedules as we can.  If there is a class that you would like to take and it is not on our posted lineup or perhaps not scheduled at a time that is convenient for you - please let me know.  I will do everything I can to get it worked out to meet your schedule!  Suggestions for new classes and techniques are always welcome!

School is starting soon and that means Addi and Owen will be back in the shop with me!  With Owen being mobile now, it is going to be a challenge to keep him happy and safe.  While I am busy knitting up little straitjackets, please be patient as we adapt!  I guarantee he will reward you with a big toothy grin.

One last matter of house keeping.  Due to the cost of ink and the rising demand - I have to implement a policy for printing copies of patterns.

Effective immediately, free patterns will be printed for customers (at the time of purchase of the yarn) with a limit of 4 pages printed free of charge.  (Additional pages are 50 cents per page.)

If you would like a copy of a free pattern and do not wish to purchase the yarn, the cost will be 50 cents per page.  Single paid patterns from Ravelry are always printed as well as delivered to your Ravelry account.   Thanks in advance for your understanding!

I have to run - Mr. Bo from UPS just delivered 3 HUGE boxes!

Until next time...

Make & Take

We continue with our monthly FREE Make & Take series of ornaments with this little tote bag.  This was a huge hit last year so we are bringing it back again.  This year, we are adding a crocheted version also!

Join us anytime on Saturday, August 16th or Sunday, August 17th to make one!  We will provide the pattern and all supplies necessary for you to create your own.  Help will be available if you need it.

Just bring your knitting needles or crochet hook and join the fun!

August KAL

For August, we have chosen a pullover tee knitted in the round and top down.  That means no seaming when you are finished!

Gemini has a lace panel that covers the neck and shoulders.  It is reversible so the lace can either be worn to the front to dress it up or to the back for a more casual look.  Sizes from XS to 3X.

Sample shown here in size XS knitted with
Cascade Ultra Pima.

The pattern is free at Knitty.com or you can pick up a printed copy at Yarn Asylum with the purchase of your yarn!
Lola Speaks

I am happy to have my own column in the newsletter - a chance for me to tell it like it really is at the Yarn Asylum. From the perspective of 6 inches off the floor, of course.

Let's get one thing out in the open.  The Asylum Director believes I am deaf. We will just let her continue to harbor that belief.   I get away with so much more this way.  When she calls me to go outside in the blasted heat for a "little walk", I can just ignore her.  It is kind of fun to know she is following me around with that leash trying to get my attention.

On the other hand, be aware that I am listening to all the talk around the table.  I hear those little secrets that you think are safe.  I hear the snippets of conversation about "contraband yarn" and the chatter about the best place for Chinese takeout.  Rest assured your secrets are safe with me.  I will not call you out on who needs a pedicure and who has smelly feet.

This month I would like to report on the frequency of visits by the UPS and FedEx delivery people.  It seems like they are hauling boxes in here of all shapes and sizes each day.  They all seem to have the same things in them.  Yarn of all colors and weights.  Books with all kinds of pretty pictures.  Needles and crochet hooks.  Each delivery makes the Director really happy, but what does a pooch have to do to get a box of treats?

When I am not ignoring the Director, begging for food, napping or looking for back scratches - I am often searching Ravelry on my PawPad.

These are my latest finds and I am sure your canine friends would like one of these as much as I would:
