If you were unable to attend the Ashford Park School (APS) Community Meeting to discuss our unified community response to the DCSD Secondary School Facility Planning & Feasibility Study the following email highlights the proposal set forth.
The APS parent leadership team (PTA, School Council, APSEF) have been meeting with DCSD officials, leadership of our school cluster and leadership of other clusters impacted by the current overcrowding.
From these meetings we have learned the following:
The current DCSD Secondary School Facility Planning & Feasibility Study is about facilitiesonly. Any redistricting will occur 1 year prior to when a new building or expansion of any existing school is set to open. Therefore, the single question being asked now is where should the new schools be built to alleviate the overcrowding in the following clusters: Dunwoody, Chamblee, Cross Keys, Lakeside, Tucker, Druid Hills & Clarkston.
Geography & diversity will be equally weighted in solving this overcrowding. If you are unfamiliar with the current shape of the Cross Keys cluster, please reference the presentation found here.
There is a strong possibility that in solving this problem (through Options A, B or C) Ashford Park School will become part of a Cross Keys/Brookhaven cluster vs. remaining in the Chamblee cluster.
Based on these points, the APS parent leadership has proposed a unified position for our community. This is shown below or can be accessed here.
If you agree with this position, we ask that each of you complete the on-line surveyand choose option B, as your preferred option. The next page of the survey will ask for 'Additional Suggestions'. Here, include the following description of a modified option B:
Modified B: Create a Cross Keys/Brookhaven cluster removing split feeders from the option. Sell Briarcliff land and purchase additional land at Cross Keys site. Create a Cross Keys/Brookhaven campus with a new high school and old CKHS converted to a middle school.
