Hall of Fame

The Lucinda Community Orchard members have been working hard to enrich the growing Orchard. They recently held a very well attended and informative Food Forest Workshop led by Derek Craig. This has helped their process of having a more comprehensive plan for the next few years creating more food biodiversity and less maintenance. Thank you Lucinda Orcharders.

Our Streams Our Dreams
June e-pānui

Tēnā koutou katoa, nau mai haere mai ki ō tātou e-pānui
Come join us at Olive Grove (take Swan Hill drive of West coast Rd). Project Twin Streams in association with Auckland Council Parks, are holding a special Matariki Planting Day on the 5th of July between 10am and 1pm. We are planting over 500 trees and would love to involve as many people from our local community as possible. There will be a free sausage sizzle, kid’s entertainment, including face painting and clay model making, as well as live music from talented local artists and groups. This is the biggest planting celabration on our calander this year, so don’t miss out!

Plastic free July is all about challenging ourselves to use less single use less or no single use plastics. Single use plastics most commonly come in the form of food packaging, as well as packaging of other consumer goods. Please visit the plastic free site for more info. The team here at PTS Glen Eden and Ecomatters have committed to the challaenge, starting tomorrow!

Pollution  in our Stream!

Last Friday the Stream Rangers discovered a serious diesel leak into the Waikumete Stream in near Atkinson Road Walkway. We worked out that the strong smell was coming out of a culvert from the Captain Scott Road side. We then rang Pollution Hotline 09 3773107 immediately to get assistance. While waiting we further traced the pollution source up Atkinson Rd and noticed that there was a drainage works company with smelly diesel tanks on their truck , but there was no obvious leak and the workers indicated their hadn't been any mishaps.
The Pollution Response Team came within the hour of us calling and immediately put a ‘boom’ in the Stream below the culvert to isolate and soak up the diesel.  Please contact Pollution Hotline if you ever suspect pollution.
