“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is …

the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

Authors for Indies 2016 Poster

Join us for coffee or a glass of wine and spend some time with a dozen wonderful Canadian authors.

Ask them about their own books & the ones they like to read when they're not writing.

I’m not sure who had more fun at the first annual Authors for Indies in 2015 – the authors, our customers or our bookstore staff!
We are delighted to be hosting twice as many authors this year. You will have the chance to chat with twelve of our finest local writers ~ many of them major literary award winners.

A little background on Authors for Indies...
32 Books & Gallery has a very specific reason to be especially enthusiastic about Authors for Indies.
After Deb, the owner, attended a booksellers’ conference in Seattle she was determined to bring a version of the American "Indie’s First" campaign north of the border.
She chatted about the idea with staff and a few other interested humans, did some brainstorming with local authors, and now this wonderful event has taken on a life of its own.

We sincerely hope to see you on Saturday!

What's New?
Ayala Bar Jewellery!

A note from Ayala Bar...
Ever since I can remember I have loved drawing, sculpture, embroidery & sewing. I studied art professionally although the jewellery making came later.

My main source of inspiration has always been the materials themselves. Other influences that have captivated me include my cultural background. My grandmother, who is still alive at the age 104, emigrated from Afghanistan to Israel in the 1920s. She carried her baby for most of the 2000 mile journey. This baby was my father. At one point, I visited a museum featuring jewels from Afghanistan. As I walked through the gallery, I was amazed as I noticed the parallels between the artifacts on display and my own work.

I am happy to think that I can bring joy to others through what I make. It is my hope to continue to evoke curiosity and intrigue through my art.

For me, this is the true essence of what Ayala Bar stands for.

We are open 7 days a week!

"Making people believe the unbelievable is no trick; it’s work.
Belief and reader absorption come in the story's details:

An overturned tricycle in the gutter of an abandoned neighborhood can stand for everything.”

~ Stephen King ~

Jem is all dressed up for Authors for Indies and she wants you to join us on Saturday April 30th."

She'd also like to share one of her favourite literary quotes with you:
“Fairy tales are more than true:
Not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."
