Northwestern vs. Nebraska, Saturday, October 20, 2:30 pm kickoff

All of Evanston will host Nebraska football fans this Saturday for a sell-out game reaching Ryan Field's capacity of 47,330 fans.  Nebraska fans are known for both their enthusiasm -- they travel for every away game, whether or not they have tickets to the game -- and for their civility.  Thank you in advance for your patience with what promises to be a busy Saturday.
Evanston's Traffic Division will adjust the construction-constricted traffic lanes on west Central Street to accommodate the game day traffic and NU Athletics will direct I-94 expressway traffic to the Dempster Street and Lake Avenue exits.  Kickoff is at 2:30 pm.  Go Cats!

Happy 75th Birthday to Tag's Bakery!

Celebrate the 75th birthday of Tag's Bakery, which opened on Central Street in 1937.  Tag’s is run by the brother and sister duo Greg Vetter and Gretchen Vetter, whose parents, Don and Jan, purchased the establishment in 1968.  Don and Jan Vetter retired in 1999.
For 75 years, Tag's has sold its renowned baked goods from its 3800 square foot space at 2010 Central Street.  Tag’s is famous for its florentines (almond and chocolate baked confections), but also offers a wide variety of cakes, pies, cookies, and other pastries.  Tag’s has expanded its sales of florentines to 17 Jewel-Osco grocery stores in the Chicagoland area and through a brisk mail-order business.  Twenty-two employees work in Tag's retail store and in its baking operations.
Join Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl at the City Council Meeting on Monday, October 22 at 7:15 pm for a celebration of Tag's 75th birthday and a proclamation to be presented to the Vetter family.  Thank you and congratulations to Tag's Bakery and the Vetter family for 75 years in Evanston.  You can find Tag's bakery online and on Facebook.  When you need a birthday cake or florentines, call Tag's at 847-328-1200.
