A world without polio is in sight

I have had the unique opportunity of being part of the polio eradication campaign from its very beginnings. Now, more than a quarter century later, we are truly “this close” to the end.

None of us knew back then how long eradication would take, or how many obstacles we’d meet along the way. I’m not sure how we would have felt about taking on the challenge if we had known. But, there is one thing I know for sure; every single day of the past 29 years has been worth it. Read RI President's Message >

New study examines life beyond bushfires

Australian Rotary Health takes part in a range of cutting edge mental health research studies. Beyond Bushfires is one of the diverse projects they have been involved in.

Beyond Bushfires: Community, Recovery and Resilience is a five-year research study investigating the medium to long-term impacts of Victoria’s “Black Saturday” bushfires in February 2009. Last chance tickets | Climb for polio eradication

Those attending the 2014 Rotary International Convention from June 1-4 can take in the best view in Sydney from atop the arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, while spotlighting Rotary and raising money for polio eradication.

Led by RI President Ron Burton, Rotarians will climb the bridge on Friday May 30 and line up along the top of the arch, holding flags from each country where Rotary is active. Book your tickets >

Oral language program targets literacy

Students at Western Heights Primary School in Rotorua, NZ, are turning over a new page thanks to a new oral language program aimed at tackling serious literacy issues in the local community.

Launched this year, Te Wa Korero Ngā Tamariki (TKT) is the brainchild of Annette Stock, a speech language and literacy specialist. She developed the program after being approached by President of the Rotary Club of Rotorua Sunrise, Sue Gunn. Read Story >

Disaster Aid Australia: Water purification training program ('SkyHydrant')

For some years, Disaster Aid Australia (a Rotary club project) has partnered with SkyJuice™ Foundation in providing low cost, sustainable water treatment solutions for humanitarian projects and for emergency and disaster relief efforts.  A not-for-profit organisation incorporated in Australia, the Foundation uses worlds’ best (Australian-designed) low pressure ultra filtration membrane technology (known to produce safe, sustainable potable water that is affordable, using technology that is appropriate to communities in developing countries.
