Kia ora ShelterBox supporters,

I'd like to to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support and generosity in 2019.  You have all helped us take meaningful steps towards our goal of ‘no family without shelter’ around the world and for that we are extremely grateful.

It has been a busy year for all of us in 2019, including myself.  Since accepting the challenge of Board Chair in February I have proudly attended our ShelterBox stand at the Wellington Round The Bays sponsored run event, hosted a delicious Shine for ShelterBox dinner at Pravda restaurant in Wellington raising $1,500 and had the honour of attending the annual ShelterBox Affiliates Conference in Cornwall, UK.  The latter trip proved to be very fruitful as I had the fantastic opportunity to meet many fellow affiliates from around the globe, learn from their success and challenges and to garner many ideas on how to improve what we do here in New Zealand to raise awareness for our great cause.

Behind the scenes, the Board of ShelterBox NZ has been busy working away.  We have appointed two new Directors (Rebecca Aitchison and Brent Eddy) plus our fabulous new Board Secretary, Nadine Koruna.  Together we have created an ambitious five year strategic plan that I am confident will see us in a great position to further grow our support for the cause, refreshed our constitution to assist in an enhanced governance position and developed a smart risk register to help protect the great work we have all been doing in NZ and our efforts moving forward.  In short, we are in great shape to make a real impact in the coming years – but of course, we cannot do this without the continued support of our loyal donors and supporters.

I would like to extend a special thank you to our amazing group of volunteers, ambassadors and ShelterBox Response Team members (SRTs). Without your dedication and hard work we would not be able to achieve the great level of awareness we are achieving throughout NZ.  I am humbled by your efforts and achievements.
Thank YOU!

Nga Mihi

Throughout 2019, families around the world saw their homes crumble to powerful earthquakes and wash away to cyclones and floods. Others had to abandon their homes because of violent conflict.

Your amazing support this year has meant that people who lost their homes have received the essential aid they needed to rebuild their lives. Our 2019 Impact report available HERE

Your support was vital in bringing whole communities together and helping families recover.
Thank you - you're making a difference.

In the last weeks, we have been liaising with the Australian Red Cross and local Rotary partners to understand how ShelterBox might be able to help during tragic bushfires in Australia. The situation is devastating not only for those affected but also for the wildlife and the environment, and we have been working hard to understand if our type of specialist emergency shelter aid could play a role in supporting families who need help.

The current situation is that local organisations are the best placed people to help support those affected. Whilst we are continuing to liaise with our contacts and to support the response in any way we can, we will not be distributing aid at this time.

If you would like to donate to help those affected by the wildfires, please visit some of our partners who are working in Australia, doing an amazing job of providing a range of support to those affected:

Rotary National Bushfire Appeal:

  •  Rotary clubs in Australia have established a range of projects to support Australian families
Australian Red Cross:
  • They are working in evacuation and recovery centres to provide comfort to those who have fled the fires.
  • They are helping people to locate missing loved ones
  • arranging accommodation,
  • and providing one-to-one support.
Habitat for Humanity Australia:
  • providing a Disaster Recovery Team on the ground to support those communities affected.

Barry Williams (75) of Paeroa Rotary Club (9930) has signed-up for our Kokoda Trek 2020 challenge. Barry will hike over 90km (!!) in Papua New Guinea this April to help us raise funds for families affected by natural disaster or conflict.

"I enjoy keeping fit, and challenging myself. I have been a Rotarian for 20 years, and really enjoy the aims and aspirations of Rotary, with this year's theme being "ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD". To participate in this challenge, I am expected to raise in the vicinity of $3600, to promote and support ShelterBox. I am asking anyone who is able to contribute, say even the cost of a cup of coffee, $5, a motel room, $100. Whatever you feel comfortable, giving, know at the end of the day, I am hoping to raise $3600. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and of course, your donation is tax deductible".

You can follow Barry's progress and support him here:

Due to an unfortunate error in our receipting software some of our supporters haven't received a tax receipt for the donations made in 2019. We sincerely apologise for this. All donations are greatly appreciated and and we're working towards having this issue fixed permanently. In the meantime, if you have donated to ShelterBox New Zealand last year and haven't received a receipt, please let us know at
