Thank you for signing up to receive updates at "Close Guantánamo."
In the last few weeks, the attorney Tom Wilner and the journalist Andy Worthington (the steering committee of the "Close Guantánamo" campaign) visited Kuwait, as part of the campaign to secure the release from Guantánamo of the last two Kuwaitis in the prison, Fawzi al-Odah and Fayiz al-Kandari.
To accompany the visit, profiles of Fawzi and Fayiz were published on the "Close Guantánamo" website, as Justice Denied: The Stories of Fawzi Al-Odah and Fayiz Al-Kandari, the Last Two Kuwaitis in Guantánamo.
As part of the visit, Tom and Andy also appeared on Kuwaiti TV to discuss the cases of Fayiz and Fawzi. A video is available here, and it was a great opportunity to spread the word about the ongoing injustice of Guantánamo, and also to encourage the Kuwaiti government to put pressure on the Obama administration to secure the release of the two men, whose ongoing detention, after ten years, is unacceptable.
Further profiles of other Guantánamo prisoners who are still detained will be forthcoming on the website this week, but in the meantime, if you are in the UK, please sign and publicize the new e-petition to the British government, asking them to secure the return to the UK of Shaker Aamer, the last British resident in the prison, who was profiled on "Close Guantánamo" a few weeks ago, on the 10th anniversary of his arrival at Guantánamo.
We hope you appreciate our project to tell the stories of the prisoners still held at Guantánamo, and our intention to build up a campaign throughout the year to put pressure on President Obama to fulfil his promise to close Guantánamo. If so, please spread the word, and help us to make 2012 the year that we close Guantánamo. More profiles will follow soon.
