Before and After... Again!

A Fresh Look in Narberth

To accommodate a growing family, my clients recently moved to a new property in Narberth— well, an older property but new to them! Having enjoyed the gardens I had designed for them at their previous house, they called me to help them with the curb appeal of their new home. Not knowing what they wanted, I helped them to envision a new look for their new property.

Upon arrival, the first thing that caught my eye was the concrete walkway and steep steps up from the sidewalk that were uneven and not in good shape. I also noticed the front steps by the front door went straight up to the door with no landing. Imagine teetering on the top step with your newborn in your arms and trying to unlock the front door! In the new design, I created a flagstone front walkway with easy, gracious steps up from the sidewalk, and added a landing before the front door.

For the gardens, the plantings are colorful and low maintenance. The boxwoods at the top of the slope screen the cars that are parked on the street, while the low-growing junipers are a no-mow solution for the sloped area. Two dogwoods, ornamental shrubs and perennials add color to the beds by the house and the inside of the boxwoods. And there's a shade garden is tucked under the existing evergreen tree at the corner of the house.

The plantings went in this spring and my clients are very happy with the design. There's nothing that brings me more joy than happy clients!

The Year of FUN!

Having declared 2019 The Year of Fun, in May I had fun attending plays and musicals. For the last 4 or 5 years, Bill & I have been seasonal subscribers to The Arden Theater. They do wonderful productions of a wide variety of plays: well-known, new, large casts, small casts, one person shows, experimental. Of this year's plays at the Arden, "Once" (photo above) and "74 Judgement" blew me away! Before each play, Bill and I head downtown to have lunch and walk around Old City. Such fun!

This May, I also got to see one of my dearest friend's son in a play at the Walnut Street Theater. I love seeing him perform! He's so talented! Plus, I had a great time seeing it with 3 girlfriends, plus dinner afterwards at Caribou Cafe. What a wonderful city for the arts and great food!
