Skytop Garden in Winter

The Bare Bones

Now is the best time to take a look at your garden's bones. The underlining structure is present all year round, but is most clearly seen in the winter while all the deciduous trees and shrubs are bare and the perennial plants are asleep.
What shapes do you see? Can you see the circulation paths for people and vehicles? Does it make sense?
As your life evolves so should your outdoor spaces. The play space that your children enjoyed when they were young may not be used now that they are older. You could be entertaining more, or less. Do your outdoor spaces still make sense for your current lifestyle? Do you fully enjoy your outdoor spaces?
Take a look also at your trees and shrubs. Are there views you wish were screened this time of year with evergreens? It could be something small like your air conditioning unit or a large view, like your neighbors house. Evergreen plants are fantastic for screenings, as well as adding to the overall structure and winter interest to your outdoor spaces.
If you snap a few photos now, it will help you remember what issues you'd like to change come spring. If you'd like some help bringing your ideas to life this spring, give me a call now: 610-896-8444.
