January 2021 Update - Return to Remote Instruction
Dear Musicians and Families,
Happy new year from the Bel Canto instructors and family! I hope you've been enjoying a healthy and happy holiday with your loved ones. It was such a pleasure to ring in the season with live concerts again. Our orchestra concert recordings were posted on YouTube after the show - be sure to check them out!
Sadly, due to the new provincial restrictions, we will shift to Remote Learning. (Hopefully this will be short-lived and we will certainly return to live lessons as soon as it is permitted!)
Private & Group Classes will be held as usual, same days & time.
Mon, Jan 3 and Tues, Jan 4 classes will be in-person.
All classes continue online from Wed, January 5th, via Zoom. You may need to print or pick up new music before your first class. Please see details below!
Please let me know if you will need to pick up a paper copy from the studio before you/your child's online classes. It will be left in a folder on the back door for you to collect once you've arranged to do so.
Please tune your instrument the DAY BEFORE your class and again before your lesson begins. If you need assistance tuning it, contact me to book an appointment to do so. Tuning apps are easily found online for free. Watch my tutorial to help musicians/parents tuning at home.
See below for more tips for setting up your home learning environment!
I look forward to "seeing" you all again soon, musicians! Musically yours,

Tips for Online Music Lessons
Arrange a quiet environment with a strong internet connection.
Set up your music stand at head-height.
Violinists should stand for best posture. Cellists should use a dining room chair or bench rather than a couch or computer chair on wheels.
Have your sheet music, a pencil, and high-liters ready.
Tune your instrument using an electronic tuner or tuning app BEFORE class.
A microphone & headphones/speakers will improve the sound quality.
Turn Original Sound ON, if given the option in your Zoom call on your device.
In the Audio Settings, choose "Suppress Background Noise- LOW"
Angle your device so you can see your instructor easily and both your left hand fingers and bow hand are both visible to the instructor when you play.
Stay muted during group classes until called upon.
