The experiences of 300 African Danida funded researchers
The report “Opportunities, Challenges and Bad Weather” presents the findings from a retrospective study of three decades of Danida support to research capacity building in Africa. The impacts include close to zero unemployment amongst Danida-educated researchers and the meaningful ties created between Africa and Denmark that stretch far beyond research project scopes and timelines. The report will be launched 27 June.

27 June: Festive celebration of long-term research partnerships and global collaboration  
We welcome you to this year’s festive award ceremony of the annual Danida Alumni Prize and the launch of the retrospective study “Opportunities, challenges – and bad weather”. The free event takes place 3.30 – 5.30pm on the 27 June, Dalgas Have, Frederiksberg. It is followed by a summer reception at Danida Fellowship Centre starting at 6.30pm.

Danida Alum of the Year 2019: Dr Phan Thi Van
Dr Phan Thi Van motto “knowledge is not knowledge unless we share it” has been the driving force behind Dr Phan’s impressive international career and her tireless promotion of scientific research in the sustainable development of aquaculture. Dr Phan Thi Van receives the Danida Alumni Prize 2019 on the 27 June.

Whole Genome Sequencing, a First for East Africa
With Danida’s support, Danish researchers and their Tanzanian colleagues have tested whole genome sequencing in Tanzania. The procedure may lead to an improvement in public health in the not-so-distant future.

Connecting research, industry and the public sector
Multi-stakeholder approaches are key to achieving sustainable development goals. Accessible and high-quality research also relies on public private partnerships and, importantly, has the potential to align diverging actors and agendas. Danida fellowship Centre convenes networking meetings that connects the partners. South Africa’s Ambassador to Denmark Zindzi Mandela presented the certificates to the participants of Danida Fellowship Centre’s Water Sector Governance Course.

Welcome to Mette
Once again Danida Fellowship Centre welcomes a new staff member, this time for our Research Management Team, namely Ms Mette Johansen. Mette had her first day 3 June, she will be working closely together with colleagues in the team – mainly concentrating on administration of research projects and maintenance of Danida Research Portal.
