YOUR SPSA UPDATE

SPSA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL UPDATE

As the official representative group for the student body, your SPSA Executive Council has been hard at work dealing with issues that affect student life. Recently, your Executive Council has requested a meeting with the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Senior Administration to discuss Textbook Affordability and Availability Practices. This includes encouraging the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and ensuring that the Campus Bookstores carry the required textbooks and supplies students need for their courses.

Your Executive Council has also been working with Sask Polytech to create inclusive safe spaces on all campuses. Executive Council members have also attended the Federal Student Advocacy Alliance (FSAA) meetings whose advocacy priorities include: fast tracking permanent residency for International students, increased post-secondary funding for Indigenous students, rural broadband access and federal student loan and grants reform.

Lastly, your Executive Council has been busy ensuring that the upcoming SPSA Election transpires in a democratic, impartial, fair, transparent and accountable way.

SPSA CAMPUS COUNCIL UPDATES

Moose Jaw Campus Council Update
The Campus Council has been addressing on-campus concerns and reaching out to the appropriate offices within Saskatchewan Polytechnic. As well, members of the Campus Council met with the Sask Polytech Facilities Department to discuss campus cleanliness, as well as other campus concerns. Lastly, your council has provided content for the SPSA external links page on the SPSA website. Students are encouraged to view the page and bring forward additional suggestions to the Campus Council.

Prince Albert Campus Council Update
The Campus Council is preparing for several March events, including the Executive Council Election, Pi(e) Day, Feeling Lucky Trivia, Intercultural Week and the March SOFA Meeting. The Campus Council encourages any students who may be curious about forming a student society to stop by the SPSA Office and learn how they can turn their interests into an on-campus society.

Regina Campus Council Update
The Regina Campus Council received a positive response to their February events including the International Share The Warmth event, Good Vibes and Know It By Heart. They are excited for the upcoming March events including Pi(e) Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Intercultural Week. The Campus Council continues to provide input into the SPSA Standing Committees and they are busy spreading the word about the upcoming Election.

Saskatoon Campus Council Update
The Saskatoon Campus Council is excited to begin working as a team to figure out how they can increase student engagement at Sask Polytech and to find ways to improve the student experience. The Campus Council encourages any students interested in running in the upcoming Executive Election to apply online or reach out to learn more.

2022-23 SPSA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ELECTION

As a student governed organization, the SPSA requires dedicated and passionate students who have a desire to improve the student experience. If that sounds like you, consider running for an elected position with the SPSA. Nominations for the SPSA Executive Council Election are open February 28 – March 11. Students who are interested in the upcoming election are encouraged to check out the the SPSA Election Guide.

One of the SPSA’s most popular services, the SPSA Free Income Tax Service is back for another year. If you need assistance filing your basic tax return, stop by the SPSA to learn more. Restrictions do apply and the service is available to current Sask Polytech students only.
