March is Women’s History Month, and to celebrate TargetGov has compiled a list of resources available to Women Owned Small Businesses (WOSB) contracting with the Federal Government.
As with other socioeconomic certifications, the Federal Government has mandated contracting goals for agencies. That goal for Women Owned Small Businesses is 5% of all available contacts. One of the major jobs of small business specialists is to meet these goals.

It is said to be bad manners to look at the mouth of a horse that was gifted to you, but practicing this idiom could cause legal issues in the government marketplace.
In a recent article I discussed the issues of giving/accepting gifts in the federal market. It is amazing to me that so many business people are ignorant of the basic regulations regarding gifts including drinks, lunches, dinners, tickets, golf games, and electronics and how offering or accepting them in the federal marketplace can be a huge and costly mistake.
I see two general situations where this issue crops up. The first is usually with the uninformed, those new to the government contracting market. I often hear these well-meaning people mention that they will plan to take someone in the government to lunch or buy them a drink, expecting the chance to get to know each other and talk business as one does regularly in the private sector.
