Word Relief Triad's STEPP Program Helps Immigrants and Refugees Make it Through High School
Our very own Jean Claude (staff) and Mohamed Mohamed (student) were featured on Fox 8 last month as they shared about STEPP: Scholastic Testing and Education Preparedness Program.

Tim Breene (World Relief CEO) Explains the Identity Crisis Inherent in Debate Over the U.S. Refugee Program
The U.S. has historically taken a global leadership role in welcoming some of the world's most vulnerable people. These people have gone on to become integral parts of our neighborhoods, economies, and identity. As the U.S. considers further lowering the number of refugees admitted in FY2020, the rest of the world is watching and reacting.  read more from Tim Breene here >>
Meet Marty: non-profit organizer, pastor, church planter, asylum seeker
As World Relief continues to provide integrative services for newcomers in the U.S., we hear the stories of immigrants and asylum seekers.  WR's "Stories from the Border" series highlights some of these. In this selection, Marty not only runs his own non-profit, but is also a pastor and a church planter in rural Kenya who faced violence.

Did you know we have individual AND group volunteer opportunities? Keep reading for more info on our areas of need.
Group Opportunities
Ongoing/Flexible Schedule
Through Good Neighbor Teams and Community Connection Teams, we're able to partner groups of 5-15 people with a refugee or immigrant family to walk alongside them in friendship. This is an ideal opportunity for small groups and families! Want to learn more?

**Special Need: Front Desk Volunteers**
Weekday afternoons (1-5pm)
We're looking for volunteers who can help at our High Point front desk. Tasks include greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and helping us create a warm welcome. If you'd like to help during one of our weekday afternoon shifts, please email traidvc@wr.org. Thanks!

Have you logged your volunteer hours?
As a non-profit, the recording of volunteer hours is essential to the funding and impact of our programs. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of our volunteers log time and mileage. Volunteer Hours are valued at $24.69 an hour and help us raise a cash match for refugee programs. By logging your hours, you're helping us serve more people in more ways - thank you!

A great way to partner with WR Triad is by praying with and for us! This month, we're seeking prayer for...
  • all our students and families (client, staff, intern, and volunteer) as they adjust back to school - that students will thrive in safe and welcoming learning environments
  • our Immigration Legal Services department as they continue to expand and serve clients in new legal areas - for the stamina and health of our staff/interns and for the profound impact their services have on the lives of individuals and families
  • the hearts of U.S. leadership to be softened towards vulnerable refugees as we continue to await this year's Presidential Determination on refugee resettlement for FY2020
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. - Psalm 34:17
Happy (almost) Financial New Year! As we get ready to start a new fiscal year in October, your donation will help support our services through the end of FY2019 while giving us a strong start to FY2020. THANK YOU for partnering with us financially as we continue to serve the Triad!

Tip of the Month

When immersed in our own culture, it can be difficult to imagine how others might perceive us, sometimes leading to miscommunication. That's why our toolkit includes international perspectives on what's challenging for some about US culture. How might you respond in conversation to the thoughts shared by these individuals?

Thank you for everything you do to support World Relief, to love and serve our clients, and to advocate for the vulnerable populations in our communities and around the world.
