In this MOVE Week Special Edition Newsletter, ISCA presents highlights from the new NowWeMOVE Blog.

The blog is designed to keep you up-to-date with the latest news from the NowWeMOVE Campaign, including the countdown to MOVE Week 2014 (29 September-5 October) and the MOVE Congress 2014 (22-25 October), as well as what’s new in the physical activity sector.

The NowWeMOVE Blog is here to stay, with updates all year round. We hope you will use it as a hub of inspiration to get involved in the NowWeMOVE Campaign by being part of MOVE Week (planning an event or participating in one), the MOVE Congress or as an advocate for physical activity in your community.

You can also use it to “Find your MOVE” and squeeze physical activity into your everyday routine.

MOVE Week Iceland strikes deal with biggest supermarket and juice brand

MOVE Week Iceland’s National Coordinator, Sabína Steinunn Halldórsdóttir, has secured a deal that will see MOVE Week 2014 promoted by Iceland’s biggest supermarket chain and juice brand. Netto and Coca-Cola-owned Tropi fruit juice have agreed to join forces and offer an “orange discount” on Tropi products in Netto stores around the country during MOVE Week from 29 September to 5 October.  Read the full story here

Cycling through idyllic sceneries

The MOVE Week 2014 event count is now over 400 and Greece is ready to get MOVING with 18 events registered. This year, a community on one of the country’s most idyllic islands, Skyros, will find their move. Greek cycling enthusiasts have brought Skyros Municipality, a bicycle store Evia Island, and local companies Hotel Nefeli and NPInsurance together to prepare the island for MOVE Week 2014.

90-year-old Slovakian star ready

MOVE Week welcomes all participants – young and old – and one of Slovakia’s oldest stars is getting ready to shine on 5 October, the final day of MOVE Week 2014. If you’re imagining a little old lady or man pulling on their running socks, well, you’re almost right. The 90-year-old in question does have something to do with running, but it is not a person. It is an event: the Košice Peace Marathon.

SkirtBike Suceava event turns heads

On 13 August 2014, in the Central Square of Suceava in Romania, a head-turning event took place on a warm summer day: SkirtBike Suceava. Lovely ladies wearing dresses, skirts, traditional Romanian “ia” blouses, formal wear or office attire cycled into the Central Square on their nicely decorated bikes. It was not just another ladies’ gathering, but an event to promote active transport to women, organised by Sport Club Suceava is Biking and IaBucovina.com.

140,000 kids in 2013, more in 2014

Last year, the Hungarian School Sport Federation MOVED approximately 140,000 students on the country’s School Sport Day, which was as a flagship MOVE Week event. It is set to take place again this year on 3 October with thousands more participants.
