MOVE Week 2016 has begun!

It’s time to MOVE!

The fifth edition of the European MOVE Week officially began on Monday 23 May, the total number of events registered on moveweek.eu is now 1733 in 28 countries across Europe, with the number still climbing.

MOVE Week runs from 23-29 May this year and Iceland is now leading the events tally with 260 registered so far, followed by Bulgaria (250), Poland (173), Denmark (168), Portugal (163), Italy (149) and Slovakia (148).

Belgian Ministry of Finance ready for P&O MOVE Day

Last year, 800 employees from the Ministry of Finance in Belgium gathered in Brussels’ famous King Baudouin Stadium to take part in MOVE Week grand finals. This year, its HR department is planning a whole day of MOVE Week activities (P&O MOVE Day), which will take place tomorrow, 26 May, at InterNos in Brussels.

Slovenian President supports MOVE Week in Slovenia

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, has become an honorary patron of MOVE Week in Slovenia, which is coordinated at the national level by the Sports Union of Slovenia (SUS). President Pahor is also supporting, among other initiatives, a national campaign promoting sport and physical activity, “Slovenia on the Move” .

Malta kicks off MOVE Week with Beach Sports and Fitness Festival

Following on from a successful No Elevators Day, where the Maltese Parliament closed off elevators in its building and encouraged its politicians to take the stairs, Malta has started MOVE Week with a multi-sport Beach Sports and Fitness Festival in the late spring sun. The festival marked the official opening of MOVE Week in Malta on 22 May.

Denmark breaks MOVE Week event record with a tally of 168

Denmark has surged ahead with its best MOVE Week event tally to date, with 168 events taking place around the country from 23-29 May. This year, the Danish Cyclists’ Federation has linked its annual Bike2Work month (Vi cykler til arbejde) with MOVE Week and NowWeMOVE has also joined forces with the Danish Health Authority’s Get Moving campaign.

MOVE Week municipality swim-off under way in Iceland

Who would believe that swimming is the most popular event in the coldest MOVE Week country? It’s true. And what’s more, the MOVE Week 2016 country with the smallest population has charged ahead on the event tally, registering the most events so far. Last year citizens from two Icelandic municipalities competed to swim the greatest distance over one week. This year 40 swimming pools across the country are hosting Iceland’s biggest swimming battle!

Slovakia jumps for health during MOVE Week 2016

Slovakia is following up its successful 10,000 jumps for health, a MOVE Week event last year, by aiming for 100,000 leaps for health (100,000 skokov pre zdravie) this year. Bratislava in line will also start its season during MOVE Week on 27 May. Slovakia’s Bike2Work campaign (Do práce na bicykli) is also joining forces with MOVE Week, as well as an event to salute the Olympic Day in Rio, Poprad on the MOVE and the School Olympic Games in Pribylina.

Seniors and Kids MOVE in Spain and Italy

ISCA MOVES DGI AND S2A SPORT PROJECT TEAM
Spring has finally arrived in Copenhagen - perfect weather for MOVING. ISCA Secretary General Jacob Schouenborg and Youth Officers Eleana Velentza, Elizabeta Kresic and Nila Amado led colleagues from the Danish DGI Copenhagen office and S2A Sport project team through some MOVEment Pills exercises on Tuesday 24 May to start the working day.
