This year one of Europe’s oldest, most populated and most visited cities will provide a fitting backdrop for the MOVE Congress 2014 and its theme Open city – Active city

From 22 to 25 October 2014 the Italian capital Rome will host 25 speakers and 300 delegates from around the world representing a variety of sectors that share a common aim: to encourage their communities to become more physically active.

The MOVE Congress 2014 invites you to join in this vibrant international forum and explore the following themes:
  • Urban planning – Cities without barriers
  • Healthy lifestyles, active cities and active schools
  • Partnership and cross-sector cooperation
  • Urban Orienteering

Urban planning - Cities without barriers

The MOVE Congress 2014 will present both good and bad examples of urban planning through speakers that have extensive experience in sport facility management, running grassroots sport programmes, town planning, revitalising urban areas and establishing community identities.

Partnership and cross-sector cooperation

To examine the cross-sector approach to “cities without barriers”, we will focus on social inclusion in and through sport. Topics will include gay and lesbian sport, sport in prisons and sports-based intervention or engagement programmes for youth, seniors and migrants.

Healthy lifestyle, active cities and active schools

The second theme of the MOVE Congress 2014 puts the spotlight on social factors that can contribute to creating open and active cities. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is something that people can do at any age to help improve their wellbeing. But often they need someone to guide the way, and that’s where many stakeholders in grassroots sport and physical activity come into play.

Urban Orienteering

The MOVE Congress 2014 venue will turn into an open air arena on the first afternoon of the Congress when we explore the city of Rome. Congress delegates will be divided into smaller groups and be taken on a guided tour along the river from the Congress venue to Rome’s City Hall, visiting historical sites and interactive “physical activity stations” along the way.

The MOVE Congress 2014 contributes to the NowWeMOVE vision of 100 million more Europeans physically active by 2020.
