ISCA Awards for MOVEment Spaces presented to winners in an array of colour and fun

The ISCA Awards ceremony in Paris on 23 November was a colourful and – at times – unpredictable presentation of four awards recognising partnerships who have turned urban spaces into active spaces. The winners from Denmark, Germany, Ireland and Lebanon, were presented with customised Lego trophies matching the 'black', 'green' and 'blue' themed spaces.

Moving People seminar in Paris connects project partners and high-profile speakers 

The second Moving People – Moving Europe conference brought together 175 participants from 88 organisations and 32 countries in Paris on 23 November for a one-day seminar underlining the value of alliances that can increase physical activity levels not only in Europe, but across the world. The extensive programme featured speakers from WHO Europe, Seattle Parks and the City of Paris' delegation for the 2024 Olympics.

“If you can mobilise people, it’s life-changing”

Bike for Europe North Team member Miroda Otto completed the cross-border European tour in September with an even stronger drive to create social change through her sport. From being a frontrunner who strives to attract more women to mountain biking to a self-described “leisure athlete ”, the South African is showcasing the potential of grassroots sportspeople as change-makers and high profile ambassadors for their sports.

Save the date for the MOVE Congress 2019  

The Hungarian capital, Budapest, will host the 9th MOVE Congress in 2019, bringing together game-changers in grassroots sport and physical activity promotion for the biggest Congress yet. Join us and our Hungarian partners NSULF and HSSF as we offer unmatched opportunities for 500 participants from sectors including health, sport, education, international relations and urban planning to meet and discover new ways of working together.

ISCA receives Ethics and Sport Award in Italy

The Ethics and Sport Association in Italy (Etica e Sport) awarded ISCA a “Premio Europeo” prize this month as part of its annual “Rinaldo Bontempi e Maurizio Laudi” awards, which recognise various actors who are making a difference in sport. ISCA President Mogens Kirkeby was in Torino, Italy,  to accept the award from Mercedes Bresso, former President of Piemonte region and now a Member of the European Parliament (S&D).

New Active Healthy Kids report on childhood inactivity crisis

A new report released in November by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA) compares 49 countries from six continents to assess global trends in childhood physical activity in developed and developing nations. It reveals that childhood inactivity rates are at a crisis point worldwide, with alarm bells ringing in both developed and developing countries. ISCA Executive Committee member Jakub Kalinowski was an invited speaker at the launch.
