Kya haal hai aa? Our newest Life Styler, Chance, tells us that means “How are you?” in Hindi. He knows this because he spent 18 months in India —in Dehradun, to be exact—on one of the many trips he’s taken around the globe with his family (travels which have also included Germany, France, and Mexico).

Now settling in with roommate Brian in their Residential Campus apartment, Chance is honing independent living skills like doing laundry, budgeting, and cooking. Residential Site Supervisor Max May tells us that Chance is an excellent cook who ADORES eggs. In fact, he’s often a few minutes late to the College For Living classes he attends Monday through Friday because he’s spending quality time preparing them for his daily breakfast. No cereal for this guy!

Chance is also intent on finding a job, which he’ll surely do with the help of Life Styles’ Supported Employment team. And in his spare time, Chance loves sports and can often be found shooting hoops at nearby Wilson Park. Maybe he’s working on his Steph Curry three-pointer, as Chance is partial to the Golden State Warriors (but is rooting for the Milwaukee Bucks in this year’s NBA Finals, given that they’re his dad’s favorite team).

Chance says he’s happy at Life Styles because he has “more space, and the people are friendlier.” For our part, WE are certainly happy that Chance is part of the Life Styles family—and are so looking forward to getting to know this fascinating young man even better.
There’s simply no denying Kathy Jaycox’s drive to do good.
Kathy’s been an influential member of the Life Styles board of directors for many, many years. Life Styles benefits not only from her passion for the Life Styles mission, but also for the wisdom and perspective she brings to bear given her 22-year tenure on the Springdale City Council.
Naming a few of the many City of Springdale initiatives she’s been involved with, Kathy cites “the east-west corridor, the ball park, the animal shelter, the bond issue that just passed, the criminal justice center; [Springdale] has changed so much,” she notes. “It gets better and better.”
Kathy just recently retired from the City Council at the end of 2021, given that she and her husband Bill are moving to a new Springdale neighborhood that lies outside the ward she currently represents. “Kathy has served the residents of Springdale so well over her 22 years on the council and she’s going to be missed,” said Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse. “She is a joy to serve with.” He may be pinning his hopes on the fact that Kathy has not ruled out a re-election bid once she and Bill are settled in their new home in Springdale’s Ward 1.
In the meantime, we know Kathy will continue to spend plenty of quality time with her sister Maureen, who’s been a Life Styles client for 26 years. That is, when Maureen isn’t attending College For Living class or working on a creative project in the craft room of the immaculate duplex she manages on her own (it’s an impressive fact that this independent woman requires zero staffing assistance). Together, the sisters run errands, get to appointments, and simply hang out and enjoy each other’s company. Lucky for us, Life Styles gets to enjoy the company of these two strong, independent-minded women as well. And that’s definitely a good thing.
KNWA-TV and FOX24 News (KFTA-TV) deliver the latest breaking news and information to keep the NWA community up to date on what they need to know.
Naturally, that audience includes the disability community.
Life Styles Executive Director John Newman says the NBC- and Fox-affiliate news organization has done an “outstanding job keeping our community informed of governmental policies, public health concerns, and quality of life issues that affect people with disabilities," often seeking out background and comment from Life Styles and other service providers.
He also commends them for elevating the discussion surrounding disability rights in general, and for increasing the visibility of people with disabilities within their own programming.
“In my tenure as executive director, Life Styles clients have been invited to deliver the weather forecast as well as share their opinions on Good Day NWA,” John explains. “Those appearances contribute to the growing acceptance of people with disabilities as vital members of our local community.” And those cameos are quite a hit with our clients, as well (!).
When fundraising season rolls around, KNWA/Fox24 has impressed as an outstanding media sponsor, promoting the Life Styles mission through event support, information, and impeccably done promotional videos—which we regularly leverage to educate new audiences about our programs and services.
Life Styles enthusiastically supports individuals with disabilities in reaching their full potential as contributing members of the community.

We are always grateful for donations in support of our mission:
