Many of you have asked how you can help during this epidemic. To support our work shopping, preparing, and delivering more than 1,500 client meals per week, we've established a fund earmarked specifically for groceries. The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same.

The always-lively Stensgaard Building and Blair Center are quiet these days—as we've temporarily cancelled all programming and asked clients under our care to quarantine within their homes—in order to focus on what is always our number one priority: The health and safety of our dear clients.

Given the at-risk population we serve is extra vulnerable to the Coronavirus, we've announced our own "shelter at home" policy and implemented some new routines to ensure our clients and staff remain healthy and in good spirits.

Here's some of what we're doing to ensure that trend continues:

Health and Safety
While Life Styles clients remain indoors to reduce the possibility of infection, we visit them daily to check temperatures, hand off meals and groceries, and deliver some distance-appropriate social interaction :) Two weeks in, clients are largely in good spirits and managing well.

We appreciate our dedicated Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) who work directly with clients more than ever. They are critical to clients' good health and are devising creative ways to fill time spent indoors, like the grassroots pen pal program that utilizes Life Styles staff to exchange handwritten messages and small gifts between friends.

To ensure the safety of both our DSPs and our clients, we've fashioned hundreds of disposable protective face masks from ordinary coffee filters. We ask our DSPs to wear them when in direct contact with clients. These disposable masks have been recently supplemented by dozens of fabric face masks marshaled by generous donors in the community and the Arkansas Face Mask Warriors (on Facebook at @Arfacemaskwarriors).
Food and Nutrition
Every day, a small team of Life Styles staff members have been redeployed to prepare lunch and dinner for the 80+ Life Styles clients still living in their own homes. Our aim is to supply well-balanced meals that clients will find filling and delicious, and help keep them feeling content at home.

The meals—which to date have featured  Chicken Fried Rice, Sloppy Joes, and Mexican Taco Casserole—are supplemented by our delivery of specific grocery/personal care items to fill clients' unique needs and preferences. This strategy has proven more efficient than attempting to meet the grocery requests of each client, and we believe this approach is more healthful and cost effective as well.
Thank you to all of you who have offered support during this challenging time. We appreciate your outreach and your concern, and will let you know as needs arise. In the meantime, stay safe and be well.
