I was very excited to be asked to join the TBUK board last year, having been involved in Timebanking locally for over ten years. Timebanking means so much to me – seeing everyone as equal, seeing people make links with one another, and communities working together to make things happen. It is great to be putting that into action at a different level and seeing what is happening nationally and internationally – what a fantastic thing to be a part of!
As a member of the planning group, I am really enjoying being part of bringing all this together for the TBUK national conference (being held in Scotland for the first time in November). You can read more about the conference in this newsletter and we would also love your input! Is there a subject area you would like to explore in more depth or is there something you could offer – a talk, a workshop or just helping out at the event? If so, drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
This year we are excited to be holding the Timebanking UK conference in Stirling Court Hotel, Scotland.
A fantastic opportunity to meet with our colleagues and friends in the timebanking world and others who now realise that timebanking is the way forward! We have already had national, European and International interest and we are sure that this year will be a momentous occasion.
Already in the pipeline are loads of great workshops, discussions and speakers. By popular demand, this year we will have a brokers surgery for all those questions you’ve always wanted to ask!
There’s top entertainment on the Thursday evening and plenty of opportunity for networking.
We are now compiling the agenda and there is room for more! If you are interested in running a workshop, giving a presentation or helping in any other way we would be delighted to hear from you.
We still have sponsorship packages available – If you are an organisation that would like to support timebanking, why not sponsor the event? Click here
for more information.
Appeal to the Scottish network:
- Are there are any members near Stirling who are attending and have a spare room that they could offer for credits?
- We are also looking for transport from Edinburgh/Glasgow – any minibuses in the network that may be available?
- • Have you knowledge of local B&B’s that our members could stay in?
Book by 31st August to save ££’s and ensure accommodation at the hotel.

We’ve had a great time meeting our membership at various network meetings this spring. In particular it was fantastic to cross the borders of England to Scotland and Wales where we were hosted in Stirling by the Scottish Wide Network and had the first ever Welsh Network recently in Llandrindod. We are encouraging the sharing of skills within the regional network meetings to enable members to give presentation or run workshops.
• Dementia awareness workshop
• Interactive Time & Talents Session
• Fundraising & Income generation
• How to get people to spend more credits
• Promoting timebanking with GPs
• Social enterprise models to support time banks
If you would like to contribute to your regional meeting by giving a presentation or running a workshop do get in touch. Timebanking UK is a member organisation and the skills you offer are the skills we can share with all our members UK wide. For more details, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org

I will be visiting Northern Ireland in the Summer to find out more about how the time banks flourish there, most of the time banks in Ireland are volunteer run. Sinead based in Belfast and I are going to do a bit of joint work on the merits of volunteer run time banks so watch out for the next newsflash!
The last London Timebanking Network meeting was great and well attended. As is often the case, some London time banks were not represented. We understand it can be difficult for brokers to find time to attend among their other responsibilities and commitments. We would like to encourage brokers who cannot join us to try send a representative in their place. The best people are probably keen participants who want to be more involved or develop their knowledge.
In May, Peter delivered his first Time and Talents software training workshop. Feedback was good, so there will be at least two more sessions this year. If you are new to using TnT or have new administrators or participants that need training, please contact Peter and dates will be arranged to suit the majority.
The London Network continues to encourage Broker-to-Broker support done as a timebanking exchange and ‘inter-trading’ between participants at different time banks – all very easy to arrange and record on TnT. Peter still needs people to join his advisory group. If you are interested in supporting the London Network please email: email@example.com

The Barnet Time Bank network continue to go from strength to strength. We are coming up to our first year at the Ten Grand Arcade, three unused shops which have ben taken over by the local Town Team. The time bank has a permanent home there in exchange for Time Bank hours – the power of TB hours at work!
We have established great links with local organisations including Mencap, Age UK, JobCentre Plus, Barnet Homes and Mind. Swaps with these organisations have included; Thai cookery, life coaching, lifts in cars and art classes.
We are just about to start a project with Barnet Homes elderly sheltered accommodation scheme where residents timebanked their hours to campaign to get Wifi in their homes. This was successful and we now have timebanker led IT lessons planned. We are also in the process of agreeing with a major leisure provider that time bank members can swap their hour for gym and swimming time. Loads has happened in the first year, can’t wait for the next one!
The Time for Portsmouth Network is underway,
Timebanking UK documentation has been amended to fit our network and agreement from partners is almost complete. Part of the remit for this project is to integrate service families with the local community so some of our first time banks will be in areas with MOD housing. Week commencing 8th June sees our first time bank being set up in Hilsea, with plans for Eastney, Drayton and Farlington, Fratton and Paulsgrove to follow. Exciting times in Portsmouth.
