Port Ambrose Vetoed!
Governor Cuomo Vetoes Port Ambrose LNG Terminal

@5:30 - 6:30pm
Harvard Club of New York
35 West 44th Street

We are delighted and grateful to Governor Cuomo for his veto of the Port Ambrose LNG terminal that was proposed for Long Island. By this action the Governor has signaled that he intends to stand firmly behind an energy policy that is consistent with his ban on fracking for New York State. As outlined in the State's Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) strategy, New York needs to expand the state's green energy options while combatting climate change. The Governor's veto will steer New York State towards meeting its goals of cutting carbon emissions and open up options for developing a stronger green-energy economy. We applaud and support the Governor and we hope that, with Port Ambrose off the table, we will see a clear path for the development of off-shore wind for New York State. We look forward to Governor Cuomo following the example of New Jersey by soliciting bids for off-shore wind development in the near future and we urge Governor Cuomo to make a large scale commitment to off-shore wind, specifically for 5,000 MW by 2025.

Join in a celebration rally today at 5:30 outside the Harvard Club to thank Governor Cuomo for his leadership. Huge thanks to the No LNG Coalition and all the devoted activists and elected officials who helped defeat this project.

On Friday Nov. 6 we won an important victory when President Obama finally rejected TransCanada's application to finish building the Keystone XL pipeline. We should celebrate, and be thankful. People power is REAL power. If not for all the work we've done for so long, KXL would have been a "done deal" years ago. EVERYONE counts - from the First Nation folks who've led the fight, to those who got arrested in the forests of East Texas and at the White House, those who marched, those who wrote letters to their newspapers and their legislators, even those who "just" clicked to sign an online petition. All of us played our parts, and all of us share this victory for the climate, and the planet.

But the fight against even this pipeline is, unfortunately, NOT entirely over. If the TransPacific Partnership trade agreement is approved as-is, it would be entirely possible for TransCanada to SUE the US for the "right" to build the pipeline - and it would be entirely possible that TransCanada would win such a lawsuit.

KXL is just one out of many "iron snakes" creeping across the country, planned and in progress, enabling the continued extraction of fossil fuels that need to stay in the ground! So savor the victories we won this week, but turn that energy towards defeating the TPP, towards all the other pipelines, trains, and fossil fuel infrastructure we need to halt, and towards manifesting a 100% green energy future for all!  It's not time to relax, it's time to pivot! Keep up the fight!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Nov 14th - 18th
Washington, DC

Tell Congress to Reject the TPP!

This will be a 4-day event with different actions each day. Please click on this link to get the full schedule.   http://www.flushthetpp.org/fallrising/

If you can only go to DC on one day then aim for Monday 16th. On November 16th, we and our allies will deliver thousands of petitions to Congress calling on them to reject the TransPacific Partnership (TPP) as part of the #FallRising mobilization in Washington, DC

There is a van going from NYC to DC Sunday morning 11/15 @10 AM; arriving in the mid-afternoon in DC, staying overnight at a church, and returning Monday late night 11/16 right after the two actions. Food included! Cost is $25 with no one turned away. Contact wendy@gjae.org or 347-881-5635
Also, there are plans for mini-busses to travel to one or two of the actions. For more information please check in with Mackenzie@PopularResistance.org734-474-2984.

TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) resisters in the European Union delivered more than 3 million petitions on October 7th.  To reach our goal, we need you to click on the link below, sign and share the petition.  Help us grow this petition by promoting aggressively.

Research and the history of trade agreements since NAFTA show that these types of trade agreements produce trade deficits, lost jobs, lower wages and environmental damage. Now that the full text of the TPP has been released, the truth about this deal is even worse than we anticipated. Read the full text here.

STOP FUNDING FOSSILS
On November 14th
, help expose fossil fuel handouts. Learn more about the #StopFundingFossils Day of Action: http://stopfundingfossils.org/

Tell Congress: Keep Fossil Fuels in the Ground! Sign the Petition

The science is clear: to avoid catastrophic, irreversible climate change, we need to keep 80 percent of known coal, oil, and gas in the ground.

A lot of those fossil fuels are on federal lands and under federal waters. In fact, if all of those known reserves were burned, it would account for roughly 40% of all of the worldwide carbon emissions that scientists estimate would drive a 2 degree Celsius temperature increase.

Federal policy should be driving a transition to clean source of energy, not promoting the burning of dirty fuels. We should end all new leases for coal mining, oil drilling, tar sands extraction, and fracking on our public lands, stop all new leases for drilling off the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf of Mexico coastlines, and prohibit offshore drilling in the Arctic.

Add your name right now and tell Congress to keep it in the ground!
