This Week’s Welcome

Tena koutou katoa,

I hope you all had a pleasant break over the long weekend and enjoyed some family time together. I had a heap of fun on Saturday taking our young grandson, Winston, to see the Wiggles! Dorothy Dinosaur was a big hit and, needless to say, Nana obliged with a soft toy to take home.

Our students participated in cross country with great gusto, many students showed great stamina, resilience and character in completing the course.

The COL conference, held here on Friday’s teacher only day, was a great success. Our Kapa Haka group was amazing and we received heaps of compliments about how they led us through the pōwhiri. Over 250 teachers from our local schools attended the conference and learnt a great deal from master classes, workshops and guest speakers.

Thank you for your support through the strike action. We are ever hopeful that further action can be avoided.

Next week I’m looking forward to seeing a team of our UHPS students perform at the Northern Bays Performing Arts Festival (at the Bruce Mason Centre). We will also have some visual art on display in the foyer.

Stay warm and dry,
Sue

News

AUT and Massey University

As part of our community philosophy here at UHPS, we encourage everyone to be part of a safe, fun and enthusiastic community. Part of our responsibility towards this is making sure we have high-quality learning and teaching.  Being part of a teaching community with many skills to share, we developed a relationship with AUT and Massey University. In particular, student teachers. We feel that we have the right people with fantastic skills to offer teachers in training a positive teaching and learning experience. We would like to welcome: Emily Verhoeven to Room 19, Sinead Packer to Room 18, Rangi-Marie Nilson Pene to Room 5, Stephanie Treneary to Room 6 and Emily Riddell to Room 3. These student teachers will be joining us in the coming weeks.

Notices

Lockdown Drill

We have recently engaged the services of an independent company, Harrison Tew, who specialise in emergency management planning in schools. The procedures developed allow us to respond safely and quickly to a range of circumstances.

Training is being conducted with senior management, staff and students. The students will receive training directed at their respective age groups.

After training, we will be conducting a lockdown drill under the guidance and support of Harrison Tew.

This lockdown drill will be held on Wednesday 19th June. It will be as real-life as possible which will mean that parents/families will receive notification by way of App Alert and/or email. The information passed will emphasise that this is a drill and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website.

Prior to this occurring, please ensure your contact details are current as this will be our communication with you, should an emergency occur at the school.

In a genuine incident, should you hear of a lockdown or evacuation at the school, please do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be in a position to respond. Your presence at or contact with the school may make it more difficult for us to manage the situation and could potentially place your children and in fact yourselves at risk.

We thank you for your support.

It is great to see how many of our school community are already using our school App.  If you have not already installed the App, why not do it today.

The App gives you access to many of our communications, it’s also a quick and easy way to report an absence, and we can alert you to upcoming events.

In the event of an Emergency at school the App will be one of our ways of keeping in contact with you.

To install the App visit the App store on your Apple or Android device and search Upper Harbour Primary School.

As the App is only for use by Upper Harbour families, a password will be sent to you to enable you to view the App content.
