This week's welcome

Tēnā koutou katoa,

I really hope you all had a lovely holiday break. It’s great to have everyone back at school and to be planning for a ‘normal’ term. Mark Benbow (Property Manager) is very excited to be able to use the outdoor hose again and all sorts of things will be able to be cleaned and freshened up!

It was great to see so many of you back onsite yesterday afternoon to pick up your children and I know they would have been excited to show you their classrooms again.

Property News

Over the holiday break the work began to install heat pumps in every classroom. This is going to make a huge difference in the summer months when many of our rooms become like ovens. Work has finished to stop water leaking into the back wall of the hall and through the toilet roof flashings. The next stage will be to fix up the internal walls and ceilings and this should happen in the summer holidays or before.

The quotes are in to construct a new, large meeting room in the foyer and an extra office space inside the Admin area. As the school and staff has grown, we have found ourselves more and more pushed for meeting space (especially larger groups) and we have often felt that the large foyer area is under-utilised.

The tender process is underway for our big outdoor improvement project. We’re still on track to get the work done during the summer holidays and it will make a massive improvement to using our amphitheatre for play and learning.

Thanks for all your cheerful greetings in the mornings and afternoons, it’s lovely to pass the time of day with you and stay in touch.

Sue Smith

Principal

Guitar Lessons

We have a new guitar teacher who will continue MusiqHub lessons at UHPS on Thursdays.

Paul Barry has been passionate about music since he can remember. His first musical love was the drums and he was inspired from an early age by Keith Moon, Neil Peart and Animal from the Muppets. Never one to focus on just one thing, Paul also began to teach himself guitar and bass.
Paul has toured several countries with various groups and his music has been featured in commercials, TV and film.
Since early 2013 Paul can be found in his adopted home of Auckland, where he is actively gigging, teaching and doing sessions and workshops.

For more information please contact Paul at paulbarry@musiqhub.co.nz, phone 022 198 0044 or the Musiqhub Website: www.musiqhub.co.nz

We'd like to thank Phil Moore for his wonderful tuition over the past years and wish him well for the future.

Upper Harbour Primary School and the Music Education Centre have teamed up to make it easier than ever to give your child the wonderful benefits of a musical education. We teach piano and drum lessons at UHPS during school time to help work music into your weekly schedule. Call us on 0800 89 39 39, send an email to
