This week's welcome

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Wow, we’re nearly half way through our last term. I don’t know about you, but time and months and memories just seem a total jumble this year to me. We’re busy making every day count right now and packing in as much learning and as many great experiences as we can.

Staff news

We have two lovely new LSAs (Learning Support Assistants) who have started with us this week.

Krista Fortzer-Bezar is an AUT graduate who comes to us from the Wilson Centre special school and has a passion for working with learners with diverse needs.

Lynette Petry is known to many of us as her twin daughters Jade and Tyler were part of our UHPS whanau.  Lynette was an active part of our community as a school parent and is looking forward to joining the LSA team.

In 2021 we will also welcome two new teachers to our staff. Karen Seth currently teaches at Pinehill School and brings a wealth of experience. Jackie Van Erven has recently completed her teacher training and is excited to be joining the team.

Some lovely feedback

This email arrived in my inbox last week and brought a big smile.

"Nothing too major but I just wanted to let you know that while making afternoon tea yesterday, there were a group of kids in the hall practicing for athletics. The kids in the hall were super amazing. I could hear them cheering their peers on. Things like ''good try'' ''try again'' ''I think you can do it next time'' & ''you were so close''. It really was amazing to hear I thought I'd just let you know (I'm sure you already know this) how amazing & awesome Upper Harbour kids are. Not one kid laughing at failed attempts or making fun of each other." Leanie Thompsett

Stay well everyone,

Sue Smith

Principal

We would like to thank Amy and Claire Van Zyl, William Turner, Vincent Joy, Tanisha Sivaskanthan and Zane Hart who have kindly donated new books to our school library. It is very important for our young readers to have access to a selection of books to help them learn through reading. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We accept donations of both new and pre-loved books. Just drop them off to the office, making sure to include your name.

School Bus

Do your children ride home on the bus in the afternoon? Did you know that we check our list every single day? If your child’s name is on the bus list, we won’t let the bus go without them.
Sometimes, we have to track down students who are on the list but don’t turn up at 3pm. This means that 50+ children are waiting on the bus while we phone parents to check if they have changed plans. This delay can lead to parents waiting at the bus stop or at home wondering why the children are so late.

So, if your child is on the list, but for any reason, is not riding the bus one day, PLEASE call the school office before 2.30 pm with any changes so we have time to let your child know before the end of the school day.  This will help us get the bus moving as soon after 3pm as possible.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Guitar lessons

Paul Barry teaches guitar at UHPS on Thursdays.

Paul has been passionate about music since he can remember. His first musical love was the drums and he was inspired from an early age by Keith Moon, Neil Peart and Animal from the Muppets. Never one to focus on just one thing, Paul also began to teach himself guitar and bass.
Paul has toured several countries with various groups and his music has been featured in commercials, TV and film.
Since early 2013 Paul can be found in his adopted home of Auckland, where he is actively gigging, teaching and doing sessions and workshops.

For more information please contact Paul at paulbarry@musiqhub.co.nz, phone 022 198 0044 or the Musiqhub Website: www.musiqhub.co.nz

Piano and Drum lessons

Upper Harbour Primary School and the Music Education Centre have teamed up to make it easier than ever to give your child the wonderful benefits of a musical education. We teach piano and drum lessons at UHPS during school time to help work music into your weekly schedule. Call us on 0800 89 39 39, send an email to
lessons@musiceducation.co.nz, or visit www.musiceducationcentre.co.nz to speak to one of our experts and see if music lessons are right for your family.

Community Events/Notice

We are working with local vet clinics to offer free cat spaying, neutering and microchipping for owners throughout Auckland, who hold either a Community Services Card (CSC) or Gold Card.
