Welcome

Tena koutou katoa,

Welcome back to school everyone. I really hope your families had a very good break with the opportunity to get over winter bugs and plenty of time to switch out from your normal timetables. Roy and I spent time with our brand new granddaughter, Charlotte, and also had a relaxing 5 days up in Rarotonga.

Our children are in for some fantastic learning this term and teams have been busy planning and organising. Soon, you will receive a team newsletter, so watch out and check what’s coming up. The concept driving our learning is Movement and we’re particularly excited about the Footsteps dance programme and sharing this learning with you later in the term.

Don’t forget we’ve got school photos tomorrow. We’ll be doing our best to ensure they all stay clean and dry until the vital moment!

Introducing - Sandra Wagg

Sandra runs our school office, looks after our payroll and also acts as my PA. Sandra grew up in Hamilton and attended Hillcrest Normal, Berkley Intermediate and Hillcrest High. She is one of three sisters who all now live in the Auckland area. She and husband Jeff moved up to Auckland in 1987 and have lived on the shore since then. Back in those early years, your family may have shopped at their shoe shop in the Northcote Shopping Centre - Waggs Family Footwear. Nowadays Jeff is a real estate agent and the family live in Greenhithe.

Sandra and Jeff have two children, Courtenay and Jarrod, plus Jett the German Shepherd. Sandra used to play hockey; she loves walking, taking time out on Waiheke and spending time with friends. She loves working at UHPS because she loves the children and no two days are ever the same.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

This term we will be teaching the units from the personal safety programme – Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS).  KOS has been designed to give children the skills to cope in situations where there may be abuse or potential abuse. This programme is taught throughout New Zealand as part of the health curriculum.

 The programme has three overall aims:

  • To develop and strengthen children’s skills to keep themselves safe with other people;

  • To support and encourage abused children to get help from caring adults;

  • To make teachers and parents more aware of the need to keep children safe from abuse by adults or other adults or other children.

 The KOS units will be taught by your child’s teacher with help from our local police education officer as required. Further information will follow during the term.

If you would like more detailed information in the meantime please follow the link below.

Public Consultation

“Upper Harbour Local Board is preparing a local parks management plan to help it with the future management of local parks and reserves. The Upper Harbour Local Parks Management Plan will reflect what residents value about their parks now, and how they use them. It will also identify issues that should be considered as parks are managed and developed in the future, to make sure they meet the needs of future generations. This public consultation is open until 7 August. We will then draft the plan and release it for further consultation in early 2020. Please visit aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/loveyourparks to tell us what you love about parks now, and how you’d like to use them in the future.”
